Kooks LT - Coated or Not?

Getting ready to purchase a set of Kooks and was wondering what you all that have them think. Is the coating worth the extra money?

Its a constant item of debate weather its worth it to coat. I did a fair amount of looking myself found that there is very little performance benefit to doing this. Yes, it will keep the temperature under your hood down, there-by reducing your IAT. Yes, it will keep the heat in the exhaust, which ups the exhaust gas temperature and therefor as I understand it, will increase the speed of the exhaust flow, again, only by a very small amount. What it came down to for me, was i want these headers to last me the life of the car, that's why i was decided to go Kooks in the first place and not a mild steel or Chinese knock off. So I figure if I am going to keep them on my car for a long long time, a few hundred dollars up front to coat them and keep them looking great will average out to a pretty small amount of $ over the life of the header. The coating will not really help the headers last longer, but it will help them look good longer and in the end that was enough for me to justify the extra dough.

YMMV.

i would rather put that 200+ towards a different mod. i rarely pop my hood open to look at the engine and even to show a friend. if i had the shiny supercharger, then maybe i would want to get the coated headers.

I did it for the cosmetic looks of it. Mine will be nice and shiney for years to come. I show my car as well as take it to the track. For me it's worth the $200 for cosmetics of it all. Actually it's worth $275 because that's what I had to pay to get mine coated after the fact.

IMO if you can afford it and you are remotely even thinking about it then spend the money. You don't want to be kicking yourself later and then have to deal with pulling them off and paying extra money to have them blasted and then coated.

If looks are no big deal then don't spend the money.

theres your answer....

it may not be an issue up north. I wanted to keep the IAT down because of the Florida heat and to keep my CAI from already sucking in warm air here...

139 dollars on maryland speed..

I'd get them coated. I have uncoated now, and when I open the hood after a drive it is blazing hot under there. I'll probably be taking them off and getting them coated soon.

Absolutely get them coated. For the 150.00 it is well worth it for the heat and the cosmetics.

Sorry for the thread jack but...

Russ,

If you don't mind, where would you send your headers to be coated? Do you know of a business in Michigan that does this type of work? Just wondering, all I've heard of is the "Jet Hot", which I guess is fine, but would like something closer.

^^^^^

Point in case OP...if you want them done, have them done now at time of purchase by some vender here on Camaro5.com

Otherwise you will have to personally locate a shop and ship them away....

I'm going to send mine to Jet Hot. I'm not sure of any around Michigan. I've had good results before from Jet Hot, so I'm going to use them again.
