*EDITED* TPMS install onto TSW Nurburgrings - NO PROBLEM

Sorry for hitting the panic button, folks.

Seems my tire guy was too shy about pulling hard on the OEM TPMS stems cause he was afraid to break the brass rod that the TPMS attaches to. After a quick call to Alex of Speed Depot, we sorted it all out. Dismantled the valve stem from the TPMS and pulled it through no problem. Got one of the R888 315R35/20 on the 20x10 (with a little bit of elbow grease, so I'm told).

My local tire shop is having problems installing the TPMS onto these TSW Nurburgrings 20" rims.

They tell me that the TPMS are not fitting into the TSW's valve stem hole easily and that they are afraid to pull too hard and break the TPMS. The TPMS are OEMs from Patrick at GM Parts House.

They say that the rim is too thick at the valve stem hole (?) and the sensors are getting bunched up and bent as they pull them through. They've tried vasaline and still can't get the TPMS through the TSW valve stem hole.

From reviewing the forums over the past hour, it appears that I need TPMS adapters, but which ones??

You figure with all these wheels that have been sold, there would be lots of info or a definitive answer to this! For example for this wheel, use this TPMS adapter. How hard can it be??

I am just glad I saw this thread, at least now I can educate myself before I order the wheels and have to figure out wtf they are talking about after the fact.

Seems that a lot of guys have these wheels, hopefully they will all post up with the adapters/solutions that they used.

Does this installer not have a typical pulling tool? You cannot install rubber stems in most wheels without one.

Interesting, I'll have to ask.

Have you seen this thread? http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131797

This guy took a lot of pics of possible orientations. He had 2 valve stem holes on his wheels, so maybe your TPMS can be mounted internally with a loop adapter?

OP has the Nurburgring wheels. Those have traditional valve stem holes, just like the factory wheels do. No need for adapters. Rubber stems must be pulled through the hole, they cannot be pushed through the hole.

I have the Nurburgrings and our local tire shop had no issues putting sensors on them. But I got aftermarket sensors from Alex at Speed Depot. I kept the stock sensors with my stock wheels and sold them that way.

I talked to Alex today at the Speed Depot and he told said that the OEM sensors will fit into the Nurburgrings, but you do have to muscle them in.

My shop guy just did not want to chance breaking the valve stem cause he noticed that he had to pull a lot harder than a regular stem. I think the brass rod that attaches the TPMS is giving him grief and his concern was breaking "something" if he pulled too hard.

I've instructed the shop to disassemble the TPMS from the stem and pull it through. I'll keep you posted on how things go.

Thanks for everyone's input.
Tom

I thouhgt the TPMS was suppose to attach to the stem after you install the stem by itself. Ive taken mine on and off twice (each rim) with a $0.98 install tool.

jr, what tool did you use to remove the rubber stem? I use a razor blade and just cut them off and put new rubber stems in.
