Non-RS: Disable your DRL and auto turn on your fog lights with a p-n-p harness

Ok….so I finally got my hands on a Plug-n-Play system for the non-RS that will get rid of your DRL and turn on your fog lights automatically.

I had initially purchased a DRL harness from FieldGoal00 a while back. I was the first non-RS car to give it a try. For a while I had assumed that it was all good but it was eventually discovered that when in headlight mode and you turned on a turn signal the fog light would blink as well.

So I contacted Fieldgoal and eventually found my way to someone that was able to take my original harness, alter it, and make it work along with getting rid of the DRL. It took a while to go back and for with some testing over the phone and through emails but he nailed it and it was perfect the first time. Not only that but it’s the same quality as the Fieldgoal harness that several people already know about.

In a nutshell the harness disables my DRL. Then when the headlights come on, so will the fog lights. That just keeps you from reaching down and turning them on every time. It also allows you to retain your auto-headlight mode. No need to cut or alter your headlight switch. There is only the need to cut a small whole in a rubber grommet in order to pass some wire through. Other than that it was all plug-in-play.

With the RS version the harness was able to tap into the power from the side markers. As we found out, you can’t do that on the non-RS since the side markers blink with the turn signal. In order to get around this he had to tap into the tail lights, and then run an 18 gauge wire to the front to power the headlights. In my case it was to get power to the aftermarket HID relay harness.

There is even a factory hole with a plug that will allow you to pass the wire into the engine compartment. Here is the link on how to do that on the passenger side. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...enger+firewall

To run the 18 gauge wire I ran it behind the passenger side trunk panel, then underneath the trim/carpet on the turn pass through hole, then down the side of the seat, the underneath the rear seat panel, down the sill plate, then behind the passenger side kick panel where the hole is for the Cabin Air filter compartment. Once inside the engine compartment you just have to get the wire down to the passenger side fog light area.

If you don’t have an HID relay kit an additional headlight plug will have to be added. My guess is that he could also work in the Halos somehow. I don't have halos so I didn't deal with any of that.

Here are pictures I took after I finished my lights but this exactly how it works.

Car on during the day.....DRL is diabled. No lights on at all. Turn on lights (even with auto setting) and both headlights and fog lights come on.

So all this really does is make the fog lights come on automatically with the HID's in auto mod?? You did this so you don't have to hit the fog light button???

Seems like it would be easier to just hit the button, but good pics how much time did it take overall to do all that wiring up?

Yes...that is one of the things it does but the biggest thing is that it disables the Daylight Running Lights.

On a non-RS car the DRL is the headlights. So basically you are always driving around with the headlights on. To me it takes away from the looks of the car especially when you go to a HID bulb since they are so bright.

I didn't like it enough that everytime I turned on my car I reached down and turned off the lights.

Same goes with the fog lights. I like them on when the headlights are on but everytime you turn off/on the car they reset to off.

This harness takes care of all of that. Disables the DRL and turns on the fog lights when the headlights do.

Guys that convert over to the OEM RS lights or Eagle Eyes will especially want this since they are currently having to alter headlight switch to keep the DRL from coming on. Problem with that is that you loose your Auto-Headlight.

Good question. That's one I didn't check. I did make sure the headlights work but didn't check if the fogs were still on. I'll double check later and let you know.

ok cool not a big deal either way as those HID lights would likely overpower the fogs anyway on high-beams but as i said i am just curious how they react now.

I just turn the switch and the DRLs go off the park lights go on which also turns on the afterburners..

That is the way we drive it during the day with the halos all on.
