BE CAREFUL WITH PERFORMANCE MODE!

HOLY HOLY HOLY SHIT!!!!! my entire life just flashed before my eyes

I was skrewing around in an open area with performance mode on (meaning traction and stabilitrack mode OFF) when you hold the magic button for 7 seconds... I was having a blast killing my tires in my L99 if you know what I mean...

Anyway, got a phone call, lost concentration and went back on the main road on my way home FORGETTING TO TURN IT BACK ON. I tried to go around someone driving like a grandma and the car did a full fishtail out left... I tried to save it and counter-steered but then the car whipped around to the right even further into a full 180 and I was facing on coming traffic before going over a small divider, fu**ing up the outer part of my back right rim pretty bad, scratched the whole bottom of the car going over the divider into the other side on-coming traffic...

luckily after going over the divider, the other car saw me and stopped. If he was speeding or not paying attention, my car might have just been a total loss...

Even though I was only going about 25 mph during this thanks to grandma, some cars on the other side of the divider were going 50. I could have killed myself.. or worse.. someone else

Please, if anyone uses this mode, BE VERY CAREFUL and do not ever use it on public open roads when any car is nearby. The car will do donuts and slide out as if your on ice if you give it enough gas or turn to fast...

needless to say, it will probably cost me about $200 to fix my rim, and I will not make that same mistake ever again and I hope no one else does...

Performance mode is no joke, the car will run wild on you.... thank you whoever was looking over me today

P.S. being the car whipped around to the right after counter steering, does that mean I over counter-steered?

Many people saw this happen so I just drove away embarrassed and thankful for my life and car... I was expecting the best when I finally pulled over to see the damage as the divider was a little angled curb about 2 feet wide .... All I heard was bang bang bang going over it...

All in all, i was suprised to see that the only visible damage was the outer part of the rim about a 3 inch section... that can be sanded down and repolished easily

glad your ok... did you let up on the gas and steer accordingly?
could of over corrected the left slide which would cause the worse slide to the right, but if your foot was out of it it should of settled fairly easily
but glad your ok.

Glad I'm reading this forum in preparation for my new Camaro 2SS/RS. This is exactly the kind of thing I have to know about so I don't kill myself in this car. I've never driven a performance beast like the Camaro.

So far I've learned: Do not use Launch Control and Don NOT put in Performance mode.

Noted. Thanks. Glad you're okay. Scary shit.

For Rookie drivers like me, does Chevy offer performance driving schools at race tracks? I know BMW does at Thunderhill, Sear Point and Laguna Seca.

Yup, dooly noted. TC and SC saved my ass on a wet freeway with an aggressive lane change. If it hadn't been for those features, I would have piled up quite a few cars. It happens quick especially when you are not looking for it.

Was it raining at that time? Also, the Pzero tires don't grip well when it is cold but that shouldn't be an issue for you being in Florida. You're pretty lucky, could have been much worse.

Chevy for awhile was giving away driving schools for new Corvette Owners at Ron Fellows SpringMountainSportsPark outside Vegas over the hump in Pahrump. Not sure about Camaros. Check out Bondurant HighPerf School outside Phoenix. They have numerous different programs for Beginner Teens up through Pro Racers. They use Caddys and Corvettes for many of their programs.
