Rear Coilover Install Question???

I'm in the middle of installing my Pfadt Coilovers, and the rears are giving me some trouble. The Pfadt instructions say to simply "Press the factory OEM rubber bushing out" of the rear upper strut mount plates. Well, that's much easier said than done. Can anyone who has installed these Coilovers give me some advice on this? Is there any way to do this without taking them to a shop with a hydraulic press? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Because of the shape of the bushings (trapezoidal) they are very difficult to get out with conventional means. I used a sawzall and cut from the inside of the ferrule outward. Once in sections it comes out rather easily...

Avalnch is absolutely on the right track here. Using a flat piece of wood, and a socket as a drift would be an excellent way to remove that bearing. Cutting is another good method for bearing removal. If you're still having issues a machine shop or really anyone with a press should be able to get it out no problems.

We replace that stock upper bearing with one of our own design because it allows us to ditch the stock upper spring perch and run a standard diameter linear spring. Using these springs is a huge benefit to our advanced track users because it allows for much easier sourcing of different spring rates for different tracks and conditions.

If anyone has questions with bearing removal just let us know!

Thanks for all the responses. I brought them to my work and used a mechanical press, and surprisingly, they popped right out. Thanks, now on to the fun stuff!!!

Yeah Sure Mike!!! Bring your car over and we can knock it out in an afternoon over a couple beers!!! I have mine installed now, pretty easy job, I just have to go and adjust the rears up some, and the fronts down some, and get an alignment.
