2011 SS -- Are Fog Lights Decoration with HID?

Did I read that correctly in the manual? Are the fog lights nonfunctional in the SS vehicles with HID headlights? I tried searching the forum and didn't see this discussed -- sorry if I missed it. There are even bulbs installed in the fog lights, so I wonder if I'm missing a switch there.

They act as the daytime running lamps during the day, and can be activated separately with the knob to the left of the steering wheel. They're not just for decoration.

BTW, welcome to Camaro5!

Yes. So?

You don't want to be one of those dBags driving around with HIDs on TOP of fog lights, do you?

There is a way to make just fog lights work though. I think you have to flip the switch all the way counter clockwise or something. Plus they're your DRLs, but if you have the RS package, your halos can be your DRLs.

from my understanding they are auto DRL's that will be on during the day if your knob is set to AUTO......but as soon as the HID's are on they will automatically turn off they will never be on at the same time (stock).....but if u wanna run them at the same time there are several threads on how to re-wire it to so......

Thanks folks. The light dial/knob in my car looks different in the manual, in that it doesn't have the DRL indicator on the center of the dial like it's shown in the manual. There's also nothing to press in the center of the dial knob.

I've only had the car a couple hours and only at night, so not sure how the lights look in the day. Will look again tomorrow in the daylight.

but like most people will tell you it can be overkill .....if u have a 2SS/RS then u can set to : OFF / AUTO / just Halo's / and HID's ......when it is daytime the AUTO setting will have your DRL's on

I run my Halos during the day... I think they look nice and subtle.

I don't know why some people want the foglights on with hid lights. The hid lights throw more light on the road just in front of the car than any foglights will do. If its to look cool its odd. How many people driving the opposite direction even know who the hell just went the other way past them anyway?

Just to be clear, I don't know if you're referring to my post. My question wasn't seeking simultaneous function of the fog and HID lights, but just to see if the fog lights work at all in vehicles equipped with HID lights, regardless of the HID's being on. I hadn't found a way to turn them on and was looking for assistance in turning them on.

I found another manual that came with the car which shows the Headlamp System knob that looks different than what is in my vert, in that the fog lamp symbol isn't on the knob. In that manual, too, it says the DRL's replace the fog lamps in cars with the RS package. So, I will be curious what I see with the lighting in daylight today.

The info on this should be a sticky as it has to be the most covered subject on this forum.
