Haggling Over Price

I am looking at a 2011 2SS sticker of $38,800, how much below this price should I offer? I do qualify for preffered pricing but that only knocks off about $1300 and dealer offered another $300 on top of that. They are trying to say they paid almost that much for the car which I don't believe. I think I may be better to skip the preferred price and just make an offer on the car??? Help!!

Well, you can offer whatever you want as long as you realize the dealer reserves the right to reject. I'd say if you have a dealer knocking $300 off preferred price, then you are doing pretty well. I would take that deal and run.

I got another 600 off in addition to the Supplier pricing on my 1LT. Really they are only taking 300 off the car because they will get reimbursed for the supplier price from GM from what I gather.

Employee discounts are what, something like $250 below Supplier prices (they were anyway, not sure about now), so if they're giving you $300 ,you're doing good!

Go to both Edmunds.com and Truecar.com, enter the vehicle information, and check out what they give you for market value. Your dealer should be willing to at least match that. I got my 2011 2SS/RS for a good bit below that.

You can also be a Student or member of a Credit union to get the same pricing.

Yes, I was in the military, how does that get me a deal on a Camaro? I have never heard of anything like that.

Mine was $37295 msrp, got it for $35595... that did include a loyality rebate. I wanted a little bit more but they wouldn't budge and I wanted the car.

Without knowing the options, there is no way to compare your deal with his.

I got my vehicle a good bit below the Edmunds and Truecar market values. Since the market value changes with the options you enter, the relevant point here is that while they are helpful tools, they do not represent the dealer's floor. Dealers will go below those prices. Not all of them, but some will. If you really want to know, though, here are the specs on mine:

2011 Camaro 2SS/RS
Imperial Blue Metallic
Automatic Transmission
Polished wheels
MSRP: $38,100.00
Negotiated Price: $35,250.00 (price before tax, tag, title)
