Where to go after CAI?

Howdy,

My car knowledge is 20-25 years out of date. The magic of the internet allows me to use the brains of others that have kept up with automotive technology.
My 2011 SS was stock until this past Monday. I added CAI to it. My question to this august audience is: Where do I go from here?
After reading and researching I'm leaning towards American Racing 178WC Headers. Is this a logical/reasonable next step?

Cheers,
Brian

Headers are logically the next step yes. You could also get a catback exhaust. Those are the basic starter performance mods.

Usually for bolt-ons:

1. Cold Air Intake
2. Cat back / Muffler, Resonator, Cat Deletes
3. Headers / Hi Flo Cats
4. Tune (especially if you have 1,2, and 3)
5. Ported Throttle Body (Retune after getting this)
6. Suspension
*. Drag Radials (fit in anywhere if you go to the strip)

I wouldn't get headers unless your getting a tune, and I wouldn't get a tune unless your okay with voiding your drive train warranty.

Since you have a 2011 I would recommend waiting a little while and putting a few more miles on your car before potentially voiding your drive train warranty, which a tune will do if you have an issue. After a CAI I would look into a cat back and then some suspension upgrades. Once everything is broken in and you feel ready to take that step then add the headers and tune.

It depends on how you use your car, but ever application will benefit a lot from a sway bar and rear cradle bushing upgrade. If you would like to discuss your application feel free to shoot me a PM and let me know how you use your car.

Pfadt eliminates the bushings in favor of solid mounts. Feel free to contact me if you have questions but lets not hijack this thread.

I added a VMAX ported throttle body and had it painted the same color a the car (see pics). No tune necessary, warranty friendly, and improved throttle response. Kudos to Pete Incaudo of VMAX and Tracy Lewis of RX Performance for their work! Great folks to deal with.

Folks,

Thanks for all of the information, especially about voiding the warranty on the drive-train. I have made copious notes for all of the recommendations. I currently have 8600 miles on the vehicle. Does that qualify as enough of a break-in period?

Cheers,
Brian

Yea, everyone has their own opinion on the break in period but 8,600 miles is more than enough.
