Finally official! 2012 new v6 engine.

So what do you guys think? Its not an rumor anymore. The LFX is not just 10hp more but it look like is better all around than our current 3.6. So e85 and tuning. Some of you probably already know the capability with e85 tuning. What does this mean for our current 3.6 tuning? does this mean that we are left in the past with not just tuning but with future aftermarket support?

Compared to the 3.6L V-6 in 2011 models, the new LFX engine features:
  • New cylinder head design with integrated exhaust manifold
  • Improved intake port design and larger intake valves within the cylinder heads
  • Longer-duration intake camshafts
  • Composite intake manifold
  • New fuel pump and isolated fuel rail
  • New, optimized-flow fuel injectors
  • Structural front cover and cylinder block enhancements
  • Stronger and lighter-weight connecting rods
  • Camshaft cap and throttle body design enhancements.

I find it interesting, and can't wait to see what the new engine cant do lol. Can't say it doesn't bother me, but w/e we'll all live lol.

If I would have purchased my car like last year or when it first came out than I probably wont even care but I just got my car and barely have 3000 miles so im kinda bugged out about it.
Only one tuning option for our current LLT is kinda bothersome. I can see all the tuning companies that are probably going to jump on this since I heard that is not the same bosch ECU that no one want to really mess with.
Maybe this is what the tuners was waiting for, and e85 capable ECU.

The LLT V6 2010/11 models have sold too many for us to get kicked to the curb. We will probably always out number LFX V6s. We are the larger market.

That's right now... if the LFX is the new shiet, we will be kicked to the curb in 2-3 years. The life of the LLT. =D But who knows, maybe a new engine for the next V6 will come out in the year 2015? lol.

I would expect the LFX to be just as optimized from the factory as the LLT. That being said, I wonder if GM will offer a ECU swap for the LLT??? From what I've heard they don't like the ECU any better than most owners do.

Id imagine there will be many cross over parts.

Since one of my plans is to go turbo, integrated manifolds sound horrible for me.

Not necessarily bad. There will still be a tube running down to the exhaust. You just won't be able to get a set of headers to bolt the turbos to any more. On mine we just welded a v-band to the end of the shorties and mounted the turbos that way. You could cut off the "down pipe" and do the same with these, but none of the kits offer this right now. It will kidda put a crimp in the DYI kit because most people don't weld.

It is my understanding that by going with the intergrated manifold they didn't just lower weight (good thing), but they freed up some space for bigger valves. Anyone hear anything about this?

lol

the new engine has the same TQ just a little bit lower in the RPMs than ours. and a bit more HP higher in the RPMs.... I couldn't care less about HP what we need is more TQ but even lower in the RPMs that would really seal the deal for me. for now i'm more than happy with my car as is

We have much to find out about this new LFX over the comming year or two before I think any one of us can truely give it a thumbs up or the thumbs down.

But to me, I don't see this engine giving V6ers much more in the performance department. With the TQ peaking out quicker it might be just a tad quicker, but definitely nothing big. Add an intake the the current LLT and you have more power than this new LFX.

But I'm not downing the new LFX...its obvious that GM didn't put the new engine in there just to gain loads of performance. (Cept now your going to see tons of "323 HP 30MPG ads all over the place") They are going to be using this new engine all over the place...and they should! It is a powerful and efficient engine, and I would guess the more vehicles they can use this engine in, the more money they can save by using this product over and over again.

What is yet to be seen is if the aftermarket will be able to get much out of the tune...and if it works like the current one does with its advancing timing until knock is detected, then I doubt it. But what about an E85 tune? Maybe that could be something??

I'm hoping there is more under wraps...like a performance package. They have the 2.92 rear end Camaro now. They should keep that for the mileage numbers and offer up a 3.45 or 3.55 rear end package with FE3 (or something similar to that) suspension. Current car uses FE2 I believe.

Either way, I'm excited about all the changes, from this, to the interior and what not. Can't wait to see more.
