RPM advice

Any general advice on manual transmission driving? What is a good, fuel efficient RPM while driving at a constant speed? My morning commute consists of 30 mph, 45 mph, 55mph and 65 mph stretches. I know these cars are built for speed/power but I don't want to throw away money while on cruise control.

Thanks,

2k rpm. When I'm in the gas saving mood, I take off in 2nd most of the time, shift directly to fourth, then into 6th at 45+ mph.

Good to know. I was trying to stay below 1500 but it just didn't feel right. Skipping the odd gears is an interesting idea. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Yep, 1800-2k is about right. Yeah, I get creative with my gear skipping too.

"N" is gas-saving mode.

If you're not accelerating the closer to 1K the better. Less RPMs=less gas. Down shift to accelerate. But if you're about to hit a hill and you're running at 1000 RPM, you'd better down shift 1 gear or else you'll lug the engine when it gets just under 1K RPM.

Thanks,
I believe my gear for those speeds are:

30mph - 4th
45mph - 5th
+55mph - 6th
