Vararam Dyno on LS3 - coming soon

After sitting on the fence for months waiting for the kinks to be worked out, I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Vararam intake. I recently bought a DiabloSport Predator (I've had their canned tune with LTFTs dialed in for about a week now and it's very impressive on my practically stock LS3) and placed my order for a VMAX TB.

I've talked to EB3 motorsports here in northern VA about scheduling some dyno time. So here's my plan, I'm going to reload the stock tune, strap it down and do a (nearly) stock dyno pull for a baseline. (NOTE: I have a JBA axleback exhaust, but that's really just a muffler swap - VERY little, if any, HP gain over stock). Once I get my baseline, I'll install the TB and Vararam while it's still strapped down and do another Dyno with just those changes. Finally, I'll add the Predator Canned tune and do one more pull (time permitting) and post the results of all three pulls (or at least the first two).

I know lots of people are wanting to see a "Vararam Only" dyno, but I simply can't justify installing it, dyno, then pulling it off and adding the TB and another dyno. Still, this should give a good indication of a Vararam/VMAX vs stock dyno run without a tune.

Since the no-tune VR needs some time to "learn" and is supposed to perform better on the street than strapped to a dyno, I'm curious if there's anything you guys would like me to log at cruising speeds or WOT using my predator on the stock airbox, then again on the Vararam.

Let me know...

Ok guys, just an update to say dyno results are in (starting on page 4):

Since I've already dyno'd with VMax, VR, SOLO highflow cats and the numbers weren't good I'd be interested in seeing timing, KR, and what the LTFTs lock in at.

LTFT, ... damn it, what IndeedSS1 said. Can you also log A/F mixture on the Predator?

AFR should be displayed on the Dyno sheet.

I'm interested in your results. I have a very similar combination with the New Era OTR intake and a set of Solos (stock tune). You can view my dyno results on page 5 of the LS3 Dyno results.

Hoping to re-dyno after a tune and ported TB soon.

I'm still learning what all I can log with the Predator. Ok on the timing, KR and LTFT banks 1 and 2, but I -think- you need a wideband to log AFRs, don't think you can do it with a predator.

Yep you must have a WB to check AFR's.

I was hoping he could log AFR while the ECM is learning the Vararam on the road and actually moving. I was thinking about your dyno pulls and maybe the "Ram Air phenomenon" isn't a myth. It would explain why you were running so rich on the dyno.

Most ls based motors pick up a few hp/tq on the second pull over the first, I have never seen one that didn't. Just keep that in mind when doing a baseline then adding Mods and making a second pull.

Understood. I mainly want to have a rough idea of what my car makes stock and what it makes after my mods (vr, vmax and canned tune). But since VR stock dynos are so rare, I figured I'd go ahead and add one in the middle to give members here another data point to chew on. I'll do the best I can to get useful info, given time and money constraints, but it'll take Someone with deeper pockets than mine to make multiple before and after pulls with cool down periods between each

I for one am happy to see you make the effort and grateful to you for spending the money to do this. The biggest reason I got rid of my VR was the dyno results. I so hope yours turns out great.
