Question Props from Challenger Owners, Hate from 'stang Owners...

I've noticed since having both of my Camaro's, I get "props" from the Challenger owners when I'm out and about cruising around.

I ALWAYS give "props" to the Challengers and 'stangs I see. Especially those that are kept looking nice and not trashed out.

However, 90% of the 'stang owners out there not only put there bony little noses up in the air when they see me cruising around, they usually add a finger too.

Do any of you experience this too?

What makes those 90% think they're better than the rest of us?

First of all, I've noticed that 90% of Mustang drivers (at least here) don't even understand there is a correlation at all in these cars. Seems you gotta be a little older or have some type of history with it to even know. Most are just clueless. (same goes for the other two cars) Which may be a good thing. But, of the ones who are aware:

The Chally guys are kinda 'With' us I've noticed. Their neo-retro model came out just before ours and years after the stang so the Camaro and Chally are kinda linked, time wise, there. Plus, many of them would have bought the Camaro if they could have waited. AND How can they be snotty anyway, we are typicaly a little faster and have had all the 'love' from the media and in general AND there are a helluva lot more of us PLUS ours is much more affordable.

The Stang guys were just pissed that we got a faster car. ESPECIALLY the 2010 guys. They kinda got hosed. The 5.0 came out like a few months after a lot of them bought their cars. BUT, the 2011 GT is faster. So there may be a bit of 'so there' coming from those guys. They want to show that they are faster. And indeed they are. (all things being equal and stock) And let's not forget, Camaro owners are equally as cocky much of the time. So it's provoked from both sides for the next 'meeting' with the opposite. We have the same cocky attitude that they do, toward them. By the numbers anyway.

Plus, Stang guys are just poopyheads...

I think I figured out why the stang guys hate us so much and troll camaro sites! They are bent out of shape that the 5th gen is loved by so many people... little kids get all excited to see one! When a 5th gen is driving down the street it completly own's the road! Its fresh and new still and its out selling mustang for a reason! So even though there new gt is a TAD faster stock, no one cares because its still just another mustang!

My daughter and son-in-law had a 2006 GT and I was impressed with the looks and the 300 hp. You can imagine how impressed I was when the V6 Camaro had 316 hp and the V8 started at 400 hp. I do feel a little sorry for the older GT's--------Naaaaaaaaw!!!

Some people who own similar vehicles wave at each other. Harley guys will acknowledge Honda guys even though the Harley guys are probably a little reluctant to do so. It's one of those left arm hanging down and then a one or two finger extended kind of thing. When they aren't driving their Harley or whatever do they still wave at other bikes? No of course not.

When the new Mustang first came out people who drove them waved at each other. After a while people who drove GT's never waved at V6's. People who drive Mustang V6's didn't seem to get the whole muscle car thing anyway so no one bothered waving. Easy to tell a V6 from a GT so easy to tell who to wave at.

Since the new Mustang has been out and they are a dime a dozen no Mustang drivers are waving anymore. They don't acknowledge each other so they aren't going to acknowledge a Camaro.

None of this has anything to do with horsepower. I wave at Camaros when I'm driving my Camaro and I don't wave at anyone when I drive my Mustang.

When my wife drives her Mini she waves at other Mini's and they ignore her as well so there you go. Soon no one will wave at anyone until the next got to be different car comes out and they can all wave at each other for awhile.

Most people probably don't wave because they are being distracted by driving.

I notice the same thing here in central NY.

Tons of Stang drivers, most don't notice. The ones that do glare and rev their motors to the mooon.

Chally drivers wave or flash their lights.

I've had a late model Vette, a WS6 T/A pull up behind me in the same day. From a light the Vette was behind me (55mph zone) I showed him how fast the SS gets to 60 from the light, he stayed a reasonable distance behind me, then passed me up. He must have been going about 80 when he passed me. Caught him at the next light, he rolled down his window and we both complimented one another on our bad ass Chevrolets.

Had my muffler delete done last week. My car was on still on the lift when my friend pulled up in his GT500. He drove about 20m from home to be one of the first to hear my LS3 uncorked. He was impressed and complimented the sound.

So.

Not all Vette owners are snobs (OT here, but it's been discussed before)
Not all Stang drivers are douches.

I haven't ran into a douchey camaro owner yet

My take is this: There is always going to be someone with more money, more time, more knowledge. My car is pretty damn fast, yet no matter what I do. Someone somewhere will have a faster car. I'm not going to be a prick to people because of what they drive. A nice car is a nice car, and I will give credit where credit is due. Anyone who loves American muscle is cool in my book until proved otherwise.

A little friendly rivalry however, is good for all of us

Agreed with all.

BUT, I actually have run into A-Hole 5th Gen Camaro owners. Very few though.

One weird thing though. It may be inacurate by chance, but it seems that a lot of 4th Gen guys tend to kinda be 'nose thumbing' to me in my car...

A lot of truth in this. Ford simply didn't do enough to prepare for the Camaro.

The first time I ever saw a 2010 Mustang (the refreshed one), I pointed it out to a friend (who isn't a car person at all). She said, "What's the difference between that one and the one they had last year? It looks the same to me."

For your average consumer, the Mustang is no longer anything special. The real test will come mid-decade when GM and Ford both get to work on bringing out the next-generation Camaro/Mustang.

True.

I can tell the difference between the 2009s and prior, and the 2010s and 2011s. Of course the 2011s got the power. But for the average person it's about the looks and style. And to the enthusiast there are usually few stock drivetrains anyway.

To tell you the truth, I like all three of them. And for a stock car, the 2011 Stang is hard to beat. We better enjoy all of this now, I see one more power bumb MAYBE and then a big fat nannying down.

Other way around when I lived in the US.

Mustang owners were the cool guys who welcomed me with open arms. 80% of the guys I hung out with at car meets had mustangs.

Challenger guys were snobs and looked down on me.

You know I actually get the same thing. With the exception of the WS6 guy that I mentioned; I never get a wave back from 4th or 3rd gen's

I think part of it is due that that some of these owners aren't enthusiasts.
I'm sure most people with a WS6 or performance package vehicle are more likely to spot a nice car and acknowledge it.

You've had your Camaro longer PQ I haven't been to any gatherings yet, and have only had my car since March of 2011. Give me some time I'm sure I'll meet some bad apples.
