Drive with stabilitrak off?

Do not do it... I genrally used to to turn it off. Today i wish I had not. Never needed the computer nanny before. However, today I did something silly, something I knew I should not have done and the computer would saved me from spinning out. Not the tires mind you the whole car.

It was entirely my poor driving skills/bad idea that got me there.... The computer coulda stepped in and said - hey dump bass I don't think so, you wanna go mostly straight right? But no - it was turned off.

So around we went. Boy do I feel like a dope. No cars, mine nor anyone else's, was harmed in this lesson. Just a bit of pride... And nerves.

Perfect day here - blue sky about 65 degrees. I was at a t with a 4 lane highway. Crossing the first two lanes to get to the passing lane in the other direction. Traffic was clear both ways. I launched a bit hard - nothing big not trying to spin the tires until we hit the passing lane. Then I floored it. I was mostly out of the turn. And expeted to get a bit of rubber no big deal I was going about 40. She kicked right. I freaked and tried to correct. I turned into the kick as if I was going to power slide for a bit. But then the tires hooked up and we launched toward the other two lanes of traffic I pulled hard to the right and hit the brakes so as to spin in a 360 rather than ending up fish tailing my way into oncoming traffic we ended up just off the berm in the two lane we wanted to be in facing the wrong way.

I did something very similar in my old MK VIII >.< Used to love taking off the traction control, but never turned it off again, afterwards. :p

Go to a large open space and practice crazy shit, I did that after wrecking my 1968 Ford LTD 2DR hardtop big block. . . . kinda miss that car! I learned drifting and countersteering at a young age, it can be great fun! I went to an abandoned airstrip near Central Louisiana just outside Baton Rouge, no way for me to wreck and no one to wreck into! Countersteering and drifting are awesome fun skills to have in your arsenal! Knowing how to steer out of a fishtail can be really useful!

I generally consider drifting a hobby I'm good at. As a mater of practice most of my first time passengers get the drifting special. A slow smooth left hand turn that has the car doing a 90 degree. Generally easy to steer out of. I've never had an experience where the car hooked like this. I thought I could power slide and drift with the best of. Boy was I wrong.

I think mostly I was not expecting it. If you are expecting the ass to kick around you can control the throttle and turn angle well enough. But when it just happens out of the blue...

Why were you driving with the nanny off to begin with? Kinda seems silly to me. Even if I came up driving cars without the the feature I'd still use it. You just never know when something like this happens.

I dont really understand why people drive around casually with stabilitrak off, does it really make driving any more fun?

I used to do it so I could peel out in my MkVIII and do some nice sideways driving. :3 Then I had a bit of a brown trousers moment and realised that I wasn't as cool as I thought I was. xD
