Smile painted stripes vs decals

Im considering painting black stripes on my 2010 Camaro instead of the decals that are on it now. Does anyone have any pictures of painted on stripes on a camaro? Or any opinons? THANKS =]

Wrong thread my friend.

Painted stripes are going to cost you more in the long run, but they are beautiful.

I have vinyl... matte black...been on there for about a year and no problems at all. love them. much cheaper, too.

I got a quote from a Club member that works at a shop and this is what he told me. I want Indy stripes.

I take it from your description I think you are wanting stripes like "572 HP" (another member who has the stripes already). Bottom of the front bumper, up the hood, over the roof, down the trunk, to the bottom of the rear bumper. The only question I have is are you sure you want painted and not a decal/vinyl? The only reason I ask is that paint is permanent. It is of course more expensive but with vinyl if you get tired of it you can always take it off, paint is forever (or until you strip it and spend a ton repainting). I could do either for you. We are a body shop and our primary business involves paint so I am not shying away from it. Just want to be sure you know there is no going back once it is done.

The way they would be applied is masking and spraying stripes first, then clear the entire panel. The entire bumper, hood, roof, trunk, deck lid, spoiler, and rear bumper would be cleared after the stripes were painted on. It is not the cheapest way to do it, but it is the nicest and most professional way. With the stipes clear coated over you would have a very slight to no edge at all where the stripes are, hiding the edge under the clear. Now for the bad part, it's not cheap. To do the stripes the right way you would spend around $2300.00. If we went the cheaper route and did not clear the whole panel but just the stripes it would back things down to $1600.00 range but for the price difference it's worth doing it right.

Hope this helps or gives you and idea of what is involved in the process. I'm going vinyl for now lol! Trying to add a SS to my garage lol!

I wanted to change my SIM to CGM stripes. So I went to a body shop to see what it would cost, let me tell ya, it's not cheap!! Can't_C_Me's price quotes are a little higher but still close to what I was quoted for painting the stripes. Talk about an eye-opener. Even keeping factory vinyl but changing the color was about $1k. So, it's not something I'm inclined to do anymore. I'll just keep my SIM factory stripes. Spend your $$ on go fast parts, that's what I'm going to do.

If your are around New Jersey, SLP in Tom's River NJ may be able to do that for you or give you help. They paint on all their Camaro stripes. I saw one of their 2012 Zl1's recently and the work is outstanding. Painted is way to go in my opinion if you have the spendable income. Decals won't hold up to weathering. The exposure to sun, temperature variations, cleaning and polishing agents...and time in general will cause them to peel, lift, crack etc... There is nothing like painted stripes done correctly. If you take great precaution with the decals they will last a long time, but at the end of the day you will still see the imperfections show up at some point.
