Whiteside Customs 2011 Project Showcase

is proud to present our 2011 Project Showcase!

Project Speed Racer:

The first project we want to share with you is a very special one, in memory of our dearly departed friend James. James Orr was disabled from a childhood injury and confined to a wheelchair. His life was tragically ended in 2003 by a house fire that was set by his then-wife, who is now serving life in prison.

James was known for his commitment to his family and his career; however, most of his close friends knew him because of his passion for cars. If James wasn't spending time with his family or working, chances are you would find him at the drag strip racing his 2002 Camaro SS. His Camaro was outfitted with hand controls so that it was possible for him to pursue his passion despite his disability. His favorite cartoon was Speed Racer, hence the project name.

This restoration was commissioned in July 2010 by his mother Marian Poole to honor his memory. Whether you knew James or not, know this: every person who met James was better for it. We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to build the car that James dreamed of.

Here's what have planned for Project Speed Racer:
  • Rotisserie-style restoration
  • Newer heads and cam package
  • Kooks Custom 1 7/8" Headers
  • Custom fabricated exhaust system
  • 19"x10.5" + 19"x9" CCW SP500 Wheels
  • C6 Z06 style brake package
  • Prototype BC Racing BR Series coilovers
  • Nitto NT05 Tires
  • Paint job: Oil Slick Black w/ Candy Apple Red Manta Stripe
  • Custom powder coated candy apple red suspension pieces
  • Candy apple red intake
  • Custom leather interior with suede inserts
  • Custom stereo system

Targeted time of completion: Sep/Oct 2011

James' 2002 Camaro SS before restoration

The current state of the restoration... lots of work to be done!

Project Z-Pac

Project Z-Pac came about when all of us around the shop sat around brainstorming what a Z28 from GM would look like. We knew we needed to make it lighter and add some horsepower, so we called our buddies out at Texas Speed to see what we could put together. Altogether, we estimate we can shave about a hundred pounds while maintaining the already high level of performance that GM has brought to us. Our goal is to hit 500 horsepower to the wheels, as well. In our minds, this is what a Z28 package would look like.

Modifications include:
  • Texas Speed heads/cam VVT3 package
  • Texas Speed T304 1 7/8" headers
  • Magnaflow 3" exhaust
  • D2Forged MB2 Monoblock wheels (black w/ red pinstripe)
  • CTS-V big brake upgrade (red calipers)
  • Whiteside Customs Z-Pac exterior package
  • BC Racing BR series coilovers
  • Whiteline Stage 1 suspension package

Targeted time of completion: July 2011

Before...

...After

I can't say much at the moment. I will tell you that we decided to take on a challenge that is completely outside the box.

*hint* This project promises to deal ONLY in extremes.

Yes sir we have. We were one of the first companies to push the limits of a stock bottom end L99. We used Texas speed new VVT cam package with DOD intact and a maggie 2300 and were able to squeeze 564hp and 542tq on a conservative tune.

Here's a video of that car.
