Lot Cars: RJT Availability and other questions

Not sure if this was answered before or even considered, but will the RJT Color only be available as a LPO/order only color or will they be available to be purchased off the lot as a normal vehicle (Vic Red, Imp Blue, IOM, etc)?

Just wondering whether or not I should be prepared to order a vehicle or just wait for them to pop up on lots to purchase right then and there.

Your question is a little confusing. RJT is a standard color offering and not an LPO or order only thing. You will see them at dealers eventually. Now, keep in mind that GM will produce cars that they feel will be commonly requested configurations. Meaning, if you want a 6-speed manual RJT SS/RS and GM doesn't think that will be a common seller, you might not be able to find it on a lot. Make sense?

Yeah, and you hit the nail on the head. I wasn't sure if the RJT was just a reserved 'special' color that wouldn't be available unless you ordered it like a Hurst Shifter.

Now for 'common/popular combos', would the show vehicles be any indication of what GM expects to be popular (Off the bat mind you)? I ask because the RJT Cleveland Camaro was a virtual clone of my planned order.

Scott, Fbod..anybody?

It certainly isn't a "special order" color. So you will see RJT running around. As far as the common/popular color combinations, some of them are right in the ordering workbook.

Recommended Color Combinations
The Camaro Marketing Team has identified several interior/exterior color combinations that are strongly recommended at launch.

Trim Level Exterior Color Interior Color(s)
Camaro LS GCN (Victory Red) AFA (Black)
Camaro 1LT GAN (Silver Ice) AFC (Black)
Camaro 2LT GAQ (Red Jewel Tintcoat) AFH (Beige)
Camaro 1SS GBV (Cyber Gray) AFK (Gray)
Camaro 2SS GBA (Black) AAY (Inferno Orange Accent)

You will notice that RJT is one of their recommended colors in the 2LT package.

Unfortunately, it won't probably mean anything. Check the various threads (on the various boards) regarding color choice(s) of the pre-orders. I would assume that Chevy will look at what has been pre-ordered and produce accordingly. Unfortunately, RJT is about 6th in line in most polls, where black is generally first with about 5x the votes... Just my .02

That being said, nothing stops the dealer from ordering whatever color(s) he wants for stock cars barring some odd constraint.

That is true, but also remember that 80% of pre-orders were SSs. That certainly isn't the mix that GM is expecting long-term. And the people who pre-ordered are generally the enthusiasts. I think you will see some initial general runs of cars to see what sells best and then a narrowing of the offerings and of what you see sitting on lots.

Ah, so we can expect a good number of cars with these combinations to be built for sales off the lot, correct? Or do the dealerships themselves place the orders for what color/combinations end up on their lot?

*Is unsure how that process works, so might as well ask to have an answer avaiable for the search function *

Zabo, I think it is a little hard to say at this point what we are going to see. GM will do some test marketing activity to see what combinations are going to be popular and sell. At the end of the day, they (and the dealers) want cars that will move off the lots. As for your question, dealers can order whatever combinations they feel will move, but sometimes GM will say you are getting X. Perhaps CamaroScotty, TeamLynn1, RPO or some of the other dealers can chime in here to comment in more detail.

I saw several RJT Malibu's and a RJT Corvette sitting on the lot at my Chevy dealer a few weeks ago.

If they're STILL there is that a good sign or a bad sign?

It's just a sign that nobody is ready for a large purchase such as a car. It's been all over the 'news' so it's no real surprise.

Don't the ordering managers for each dealership tell GM what to built, i.e color, trim, engine, based on what that individual dealership thinks will move? I don't think GM just pushes cars to dealers.
I don't work at a dealership, but this is what would make sense to me. I understand GM tells the dealers that they must take 3 Malibu's, but the dealer can select how the Malibu's are built.

Any dealer employee able to chime in?

We order what we want.

GM makes recommendations for equipment mixes but if all I want is Red Jewel, I order Red Jewel.

BTW, I have it on my 2009 Impala LTZ and it is super sweet when all cleaned up and shiny!

Does the order ever get "delayed" because you aren't choosing a "recommended build" ?
