Anyone try the Prothane Engine Mounts?

Anyone?

Are they much harsher than stock (in terms of vibration and noise)?

Looks interesting. It's a 1 piece design versus the 2 piece of the pfadt.
I don't see any info on the prothane site, it's just listed as a new part under whats new.

I've emailed prothane with some questions about them, but never got a response.:(

I have the pfadt mounts on my car....they do make a big difference, but they are a little harsh (some vibration and noise). I'm not bad-mouthing them, I have lots of pfadt products and love 'em. I don't think I'd switch back to the stock mounts, but if I the prothane mounts are a little more "street" friendly, I'd give them a try.

I doubt they'd be any different from a harshness standpoint. Each one is a mostly metal mount with a small poly bushing.

update....I swapped in my prothane bushings...made a BIG difference. No vibrations from what I can tell (low RPMs are smoother), and just a little hint of noise. The pfadt mounts did feel a touch more ridged...if that's what you're going for.

As you can see, there's a lot more poly on the prothane mounts, but the pfadts are smaller and weight a little less.

I have heard the same thing from several guys who were selling their Pfadt units. I have hesitated using them for this reason... nice to hear of an alternative that sounds like an all around winner!

if ur a regular street guy i think that u need sum cushins...harder means a tad more control but at the cost of liking the ride, ur back bone, and so on. I wont go solid mount on anything..I learned the hard way..thats strictly for a race veh...if it drives even on a sat nite i need poly.

the pfadt's do have a little poly.

here's a quick writeup I did on ny5thgen...

Some talk about aftermarket motor mounts...

Highly Recommended! Especially for applications w/ increased HP.

For the last year I've been running Pfadt motor mounts....these made a HUGE difference over stock...much more rigid, stiffens up the car lot (in a good way), and even makes the clutch feel a little more consistent (they also claim more solid mounts help keep parts from breaking). The difference over stock is HUGE, you feel it as soon as the motor cranks over.

But the downside to these, I think they were made with a little too much race-track in mind, and not enough street. My car had some vibration at low rpms and an increase in road & drivetrain noise could be heard. I'm not bad-mouthing pfadt...I love all their other parts that I have on my car (I have a bunch), if you want solid and rigid and don't mind a little vibration...their mounts are the best choice for you (they also weight a lot less than the stock mounts).

I've heard that the pfadt mounts take some time to break-in...after 2500 miles, they did get gradually get better/quieter....would they have gotten even better? I don't know. I would have lived with the little "harshness" rather than switch back to stock.

Today I blew off work for the morning and felt like wrenching...I installed a new pair of motor mounts from Prothane. These contain much more polyurethane than the pfadts but still should be much more solid then the stockers.

The prothane mounts have no vibration from what I can tell and just a slight touch of drive-train noise. Low RPMs feel a lot smoother. The pfadt mounts did feel slightly stiffer, but I have to think these are still MUCH better than stock.

Total install time took about 2 hours including cleanup and test drive (would have been faster if I had an extra set of hands and my phone didn't keep ringing )

**BIG NOTE...if you have headers, you will need to loosen them up in order to get the stock mounts out. I already had the pfadt mounts, which pivot enough to get them out without touching the headers, thankfully because I didn't want this to turn into an all day affair. So if you plan on doing headers, this is a good mod to do at the same time. If you don't have headers, the stock mounts should come out with no problems...although you do still have to jack up the motor a bit.

I was going to write up a quick DIY...but pfadt has a great writeup, I don't think I could tell it and illustrate it any better.

Here's some pix....the Pfadt mounts are the orange ones...

Good comparison pic. Looks like the surface area and size of the bushing probably helps the most with the reduction in harshness you felt. The load is spread on that massive washer/bushing versus the pfadt where it's all being pulled on the length of the bolt.

My engine rocks back and forth with the new cam (233/245). Makes me wonder if I need to upgrade my engine mounts... but I actually like the car rocking side to side.

Will these mounts dampen the rocking? or are they just stronger?
