Hey everyone. Camaro? yes or no?

Hey everyone again lol.
I'm new to this site, been using guest for quite awhile.
Thought i would register lol right? why not .
any ways, I always been an import man, my s2k's,350's, R34 list goes on.
I never really liked the "new" american cars. I always said to myself if i were to ever buy an american it be an old school car.
70 challanger
74 impala
N' of course 69 camaro.
Non of these new ones got my attention. Especially with the Domestic distributors having to take a loan.. Which makes me even more scared of buying a new car from any domestic. But i always been a fan of this new camaro. Like just look at this lol right! I just need to be persuaded in to buying this. If not this i was looking in to a S2k.. ( i know i will get flamed for that lol)
But a love for cars is a love correct? be it import or domestic.
I am a student, so i will be getting the V6, but thats not my only reason.
i will be driving everyday for about 2-4 hours. V8 is no option lol.
All my friends say if im getting a muscle car it has to be V8, or no point.
But the way i see it, is if i get a fully loaded S2k, which has about 237 hp.
while the V6 camaro has about 307 i belive? like thats faster then most imports n' the previous gen mustangs if im correct. ( don't know my muscle scene to well)
I was wondering what are the reasons to buy this V6 camaro with this economy? Also i know i know, but dont flame me for this... but all i hear is dont get "dont get domestic they suck at handling. poorly made ect ect)
I was like this untill i drove my friends Hemi with around 437 Whp 370ish tourqe. That was what made me interested in this camaro, frankly i hate the mustang its hideous...Challanger i don't know what to say about this... something is off don't know what. (n' the interior i dislike)
anyways back to the question, for those who have owned a chev or anything along those lines how are these things in the long run?
should i listin to my friends n don't look at the V6.
Or do what i want n' get the V6?

--for those who dont want to read all that (sumed up)---
Should i even bother to get a V6 muscle car?
These domestics reliable?
help turn this import tuner into a muscle guy lol.
pros n' cons on this camaro n vs getting an import car
-------------------
If you guys help me out, i will be wnting to get a V6 loaded
in white.
Ps: can i get steering wheel controls for the audio on the V6 model?
also, forgive me for my english. Not my first language. Also its like 5 Am.. al i do is look n read about the camaro wooooot great site

Welcome, and your going to get a biased opinion on this website, what do you expect. That said, heck yes... get the camaro LT, there will be a ton of aftermarket mods for it, help out GM, and you won't look back

Wow , Great post..
Well for one I think 95 percent on here will tell you to get the Camaro. There will probably be a majority that say get the V8..
You have to look at your own situation and decide. It looks like you have a good argument for getting the V6. So don't let people influence you into changing to the V8 just because of 'Image"

About buying a Domestic, well there have only been two Domestic manufacturers I have purchased from. GM and Chrysler.
First Chrysler:
I have owned 4 Chrysler products, All of them Jeeps. I must say the first 3 were not the most reliable I have seen, but the last a 2005 Jeep Liberty was great. only complaint I had with it was the 3.7 V6 got terrible MPG.. 14 in the city and 20 Hwy...

GM:
I have owned aproximately 40 NEW GM cars. Some were great, some So-So None were total junk.
I have had the best luck out of Chevys.
Right now I have 2 Chevys, a 2007 HHR and a 1982 El Camino. I love them both. Just a couple minor items with the HHR over the last 2 years all taken cars of by the dealer on the first visit.. No mechanical issues at all. In fact the only chevy I had a mechanical issue with was a 96 Astro Van I bought used with 96,000 miles on it. at 102,000 miles the air conditioner gave up, and at 120,000 the transmission did... both were replaced under the extended warrenty I took with it.

I also have owned 4 Saturns, all have been great cars. the only issues I had was with my first Sky. it had some new model teething issues. bit all was taken care of quickly and professionally. I now have a 2008 Sky and love it...

So As with any car company (Even imports) you can get a bad one, or have some problems. I am seeing more and more imports abandoned on the sides of the highway broken down every year, so nobody can tell me that they don't break down ever...

So To make sure you don't have any first year teething issues (if you are scared of that) wait a little while and watch the forums. that will be your best source for knowing how reliable the new Camaro will be.

I hope this was of some help to you.
Welcome to the Forum!

P.S. If you wait about 6 months you will be assured of being able to order white, and you may be able to get a discount...

Welcome to site. I think Skyman should have you sold by now . It sounds like that you want the Camaro but family and friends are all import guys. Don't let them decide for you, I am sure they would get over it or even realize how great this car is and convert themselves. Wouldn't that be funny! If you hang out in this forum for a little bit I am sure you will be easily swayed. At least that is the impression I have from your post. The V6 is a great choice, nothing wrong with it at all, bullit proof engine! Buying American can't hurt either. Good 1st post BTW.

Here is my 2 cents worth...

If you want the V6 you won't go wrong. It has 300+HP and great mileage you will be able to smoke a lot of things out there.. and with an aftermarket that is embracing this car... it can only get faster.

Do not fear buying from GM even in a situation like it is. WORST case ... Chevy would be the only one standing (hightly doubtfull that it would be THAT bad) and you will always be able to service any GM car at any chevy dealer.

Reliable? These cars are designed to take a beating. So I wouldn't worry about that.

And if your social circle is all about imports.. well.. it's fun to be the black sheep! Come to the dark side... you will like it.

I can relate to what you are saying. After buying a 1980 Chevy Citation I vowed I would never buy another GM car.
However, I think GM has learned their lesson and now makes a quality car. The proof for me is my wife's 2003 CTS which has been a great car.
I have never owned a Camaro or other American muscle car. However, when I checked it out I was sold and now have a 1LT on order.
I think all your advisers that are telling you to get a V8 haven't looked at the statistics behind the V6. 304 hp with 29mpg is great. I really do want to conserve on fuel while getting great performance. All the V8 would do for me is get me higher insurance rates and more speeding tickets.

Totally objective facts to tell your father:

1) Performance and economy -- Ask your import crazy father what engine ANY of the imports make that will size up to the V-6 engine and powertrain that GM is offering with the Camaro. There are none.

2) Longivity -- My 1992 Chevy has 277,000+ miles on it and still runs like I just got it yesterday. Ask him how many of his imports can do that. My 2003 Tahoe has 94,000+ miles on it. Absolutely zero repairs needed and runs like a dream. My Dad certainly can't say the same for his Nissan Quest with 93,000 miles on it.

3) Safety -- I know that they give some good safety ratings to some imports too, but the truth is these ratings are based off a 35 mph crash. How often do you drive that speed? Physics will tell you that FORCE = MASS x ACCELERATION. Some people complain about the Camaro being on the heavy side but that will work to your benefit if you ever swap paint with an import on the road.

Welcome to Camaro5, Monu. Checkout some of the arguments made in this training book. They may appear biased, but are factual (disregard the dork in the blue flip-flops).

IMO (and I'm a Civic owner) the V6 is the better choice for an import guy. 304HP at 29mpg on regular is redonkulous. Plenty fast and lighter than the 8. I'm gettin one.

I think the v6 is going to remind you a lot of the Infinity's and the 350z, the engine, exhaust note and feel I think will be very similar..

Personally I'll be looking at getting the v6 due to financial reasons (Cant justify 35k on a car when 25k will suite me just fine, I have another car for my racing means, this will be my DD)
