Can you roll back the odometer on these cars?

I'm asking this because I recently did a carfax search on my SS (even though I ordered it myself and bought it new obviously) and saw that on the date of sale my car was said to have 15mi on it, however I have pics from the day I picked it up and it only showed 5mi on the odometer.

Any thoughs would be much appreciated.

Nevermind, I checked with OnStar and they confirmed the correct mileage, guess it's just a carfax mistake.

When you went through all the paperwork to take title of the car there was a piece of paper stating how many miles were on the vehicle. Did it say 15 on that piece of paper? If it did that's the reason. I don't even know if I got a copy of that piece of paper. I got so much paperwork when I bought my car But if you kept all that you should have a copy. Or hell it's just a typo by your dealership.

Carfax isn't that reliable. My bro got in an accident a few years ago in his previous car. When we pulled the Carfax for it, there was no accident reported.

Carfax won't know about the accident unless an insurance claim is made.

Getting hit from behind, with damage being more than $3K...you bet there was an insurance claim on that.

Since you bought it new, there may be some kind of "standard" mileage that new cars are reported with or something like that. Either that, or it was a typo. That, by the way is why you can't trust Carfax. It is only as good as a the people at multiple dealerships and insurance companies collectively are.

To answer your question on "rolling back" the odometer, that is impossible. If you tried to crack into the computer, it would reset to 999,999 miles and stay there. Driving backwards won't work either (it will still count upward).

CarFax should be called CarFaux. If info isn't provided to the database accurately then it is just another BS website with zero meaning.
