Dealer only put 7 quarts of oil in my SS

Has anyone else checked their service receipt to see that the dealer only put 7 quarts in, it should be 8 quarts.

I checked my invoice from my first change @ 1,500 miles. It was also 7 quarts with filter change. I went out and checked the book, which indeed says 8 quarts with filter change and then promptly checked my dipstick and it was showing full and still fairly clean.

Well they either did not change the filter and used 7 OR they did it right and only charged for 7 when they pumped 8. If you read your manual before you go your smarter than them.

Luckily I was able to watch him change the oil from the waiting area up on the lift, he definitely replaced the filter, watched him spin the old one off take the new one out of the box, and spin the new one on.

I'm going to keep an eye on the oil level though, but it was completely full/within correct full range according to the dipstick.

Edit: Unfortunately, I didn't stick around in the waiting area to watch him fill it up with oil. Not sure how many quarts he put in, invoice said 7, however.

My dealership put 6 qts on the invoice to lower the price. The tech said 8 went in. Of course I checked and it was full.

Just check the dipstick. If it is full and they charged you for less than needed, you came out the winner.

It was an old invoice. The invoice being the 1st oil change I did with the car. The last several oil changes I did on my drive way

Just a heads up

My first free oil change at the dealer was 8 qts as I was there watching him putting them in, but the receipt reads 6 qts. Turns out it's the standard oil change item on their computer on the printout....

The engine might hold eight quarts when filled dry. There may be enough residual oil left behind that a drain only dumps 7 quarts. My Harleys are the same way. The engine holds 4 quarts, but an oil change is only 3.5. It states that in the owner's manual not to overfill because of the oil that stays behind inside the engine.

yea that residual oil left behing was that last quart in the engine that they failed to let drain out prior to putting the drain plug back in.Saves alot over the hundreds or more cars that they service each month.
