CTF VIN numbers vs. production VIN

Has anyone noticed that the CTF cars are 000001 and the Production Cars are 100001, there could be another #1 car, Rick Hebdericks is 100001 but there should be a CTF that is 000001

I believe the first zero should be a nine as all Chevrolet CTF VIN's start with "9" and the regular production starts with "1" as far as I know. Except my Corvair VIN uses "7" instead of the traditional "1." I have never seen a reason why.

Captured Test Fleet = CTF

Basically Pre production Vehicles that GM either does quality control tests from the line before the official production run starts or vehicles that are on display for GM functions and events.

There were a few that were getting towed to different Military bases and posts to show the soldiers. I was able to see a Silver one that came to Ft. Huachuca about 4 months before I ordered mine.

Actually there is (or was) a CTF 9000001. Unfortuntaly it also was vin'ed as a non-street legal car and will not be showing up at any GM auction houses. There were a total of 750 CTF Camaros ordered with the majority being produced in Jan - Mar 09. Of the 750 only 689 were given street legal VIN's. Who knows how many were actually sold or will be sold?? GM does not disclose that information. The majority are driven to death (literally) and then sent to a crusher. Since I own one I hope to find out someday how many GM has cut loose....

Very few CTF cars are ever crushed. They are retrofit with any parts that may need updating and auctioned off. I drove 9000003 hence my name here on Camaro5. They are considered salable vehicles and meet all legal requirements to be plated and driven on the road.

I own CTF #670 - my car was one of the 2009 Indy 500 Cars and also one of four later used for the Brickyard 400. My car only has 800 miles on it and it one of the really low usage CTF cars.

The car in my avatar is my regular production 700hp 2SS.
