Hey all! OK, so I want some opinions on whether it's a waste of money to put a K&N Performance Cold Air Intake on my V6 because I'm having this argument. My ex has a V8 and he swears I'm wasting my money on putting it on a V6 because I won't notice a difference and it would be notable on the V8. How many more HP will I ACTUALLY get (and how much does it get putting it on the V8), and will it make a difference enough to matter on my quarter time and on just being easier on the engine in this weather? I can get one from a friend at Advance for $270 and I'm really tempted. Thoughts, anyone? NO ragging on the V6, please. She's peppy and I love her gas mileage.
Anyway, I'm just curious what the CAI would do on the V6 as opposed to the V8. I'm trying to understand how it all works thus posting this in the V8 forum ![]() Thanks!

Well there are always 2 ways of looking at this. If you truly want the best performance gains and you are spending your hard earned $$ to enhance your Camaros performance you should spend the extra $140 and get our system. It will get you 15 HP TO THE WHEELS, Better MPG, Better throttle response, and better sound at WOT. We also design our own filter which has characteristics to it that gives it an edge over the competition, watch this video about the filter: http://www.coldairinductions.com/air...ers-in-action/
Here are a few things about our intake system: : Tig welded aluminum air box (high luster finish reflects radiant heat) : Insulated air box (this adding another layer of thermal (convection) protection) : Aluminum lid with stainless steel ¼ turn fasteners (fast filter removal) : Viewing window for fast easy filter inspection. : High Luster ceramic coated intake tube (coated inside and out, yet another layer of thermal protection) : Smooth bore (88.9 mm) intake tube construction (this minimizes bends and restrictions within the system) : 8” V-stack air filter with built in velocity stack (helps reduce turbulence for truer MAF reading) : 8 layer air filter (maximizing filtration for prolonged engine life) We have sold 1000's of systems, they have a lifetime warranty, and you wil feel the difference!! Let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to help! |

Your ex may be right about K&N as compared to CAI, which will add noticable power daily driving, on the dyno and at the track...It all comes down to which intake design works best for this car. Some add nothing at all, or even lose power, while better designs add well above average.

The testing on the K&N did not show the best gains compared to other kits. A cold air intake system (not the brand, but the general mod) will provide you with some gains, however to truly take advantage of its benefits you would want a tune to go with it.
Do a little research on different brands and compare it to the money you want to spend. That will give you a comfortable option that you can be satisfied with.

One of my friends has a v6 and she just installed a K&N CAI. She said she did notice a difference in sound and the car is more peppy. She was happy with her purchase. There are lots of different brands of intakes that people are using, have a look around the forum and see what you like.
As a side note there was an independent test done by one of our forum sponsors Jannety Racing for cold air intakes on V8's. The CAI Inc showed the best gain without a tune. Once you decide on what you want, PM one of our sponsors and I'm sure they will be able to give you a good deal I've personally dealt with Apex Chase and Juiced1 on the forum here, very reasonable and nice to deal with.
