Aux input vs.usb input?

Hello all, I have used the aux input to play my portable xm unit, I refuse to pay for another subscription, anyway the sound is very low with a very noticeable "hiss", I have a head unit in my work truck that i use this xm unit in, it has a aux input that I use and the sound is fine, My question is do you think if I get a usb to 1/8 inch jack and plug the xm unit to the camaro using this method will the audio be any "cleaner"? Has any one else had issues with the aux input that was corrected by using the usb instead? Thanks for the support, and keep the cheap skate crap to a low roar, I know I spent 38K on a toy, but I already have 3 xm subs, I don't mind using the portable unit for the Camaro!

I had a problem with the whole MPIM module which is the aux and usb hookup. I had a ton of static, if i was listening to my ipod and rewinded the track the volume would double for some weird reason, and sometimes it flat out just didn't even get recognized when i would turn the car on.

Took it back to the dealer and there was a service bulletin for it. I know it was for 2010s. Might want to look into it. Getting the module replaced sometime this week.

I use the Aux now and again to play Pandora through my phone. I get the buzzing/hissing sound with the phone charger plugged in only. On battery, the sound is clean. Have had no issues using the USB port.

Both of mine sound great either way. I use mostly my iPhone and the difference is with the USB I can control the songs via the steering wheel, and aux I have to use the iPhone.

You can call XM and get son really great rates especially on additional subs, you just have to be a little sly, tell them you are thinking of leaving.

I can't speak for others but my iPod via USB will occasionally get some serious static/crackling even with a brand new cable. I haven't tried any other Aux input (haven't noticed one....) as I'd like to be able to control the input device via the wheel controls. As for XM, up here in teh Pac NW the darned trees block signal way too often so my first renewal of XM will be my last.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to reply to this post because I just found out that I could stream music via bluetooth!

The hissing noise that you all are referring to is called alternator whine. Basically, if you plug in an aux cable while it is charging, you'll hear a whining noise that corresponds with the rpms of your motor. In order to fix that, you can either not charge the phone while the aux cable is plugged in, get a noise reducing aux cable, or stream music through bluetooth.

I found that streaming through bluetooth had better sound quality than an aux cable too!

I just picked up my car and noticed that when I play music through my I phone on the usb port I am getting crackling and hissing...is there a fix for this? If I unplug the usb from the car and plug it back in, it stops.

You guys should invest in one of these if you use the AUX and hear any kind of noise:

(But, of course, it would be better if the PDIM didn't produce any noise in the first place.)

I was able to pair my i phone music to the car and the sound is great, but you dont get the same controls as you do with the usb...I just got this car so I will check with the dealer about recalls.

Check this out for noise issues with the aux port. It's simple and inexpensive, but typically works well.

Is there a noise filter for the usb plug?
