Question How does the order process work?

I'm really planning on ordering soon, probably from a dealer. I have talked to my dealer about all the options I want and what particular model. When I order, can I expect to sign the paperwork that day, binding me to my order or does that come once the car arrives?

I am currently working with good pay but may be changing jobs soon if a good offer comes along. I wouldn't even dream of leaving this job other than the fact that I work 200 miles from home and have to live here during the week. But there's still that desire to order a Camaro. I know it would be best to wait until I've settled into a new job first, which I may do. I wasn't sure if the dealer would just make you put so much money down, and if you back out of the order for any reason, you lose your deposit.... or once you order it, it's yours.

Maybe I'm crazy lol. I know it would be a risk buying one now but I'm 25, spent the last 6 years in college working on my engineering degree, found a pretty good job although I'm underpaid for what I do. I just feel like I deserve it, like I owe it to myself since I've been drooling over them ever since I saw the prototype. So I'm trying to figure out all the info I can to help make my decision.

Thanks everyone

Make sure your dealer has allocation to actually order it first. I ordered mine, put no money down, and signed the paper work in the parking lot at work when the delivered the vehicle to me.

Really? Nice. If that's how it works out then that would be great. If I needed to back out for any reason, no harm done. I know it'll take 2 to 3 months before I even got the car anyway so I'll have time to adjust to a new job by then.

My only issue is their ability to order. This guy recently bought the Chevy dealer I mentioned. He has owned the Ford dealership in the same city for about 10 years and does good business. But whether he can order one or not, I'm not sure. He says he can, but he's also had trouble getting pricing info for the new 2012's so gotta scratch my head on that one.

I'm ordering in 2012 synergy convertible not sure exactly when I have to order it, but dealer is working with me every step of the way. Started my dealer relationship over a year ago. I would ask your dealer buddy to do a national search before ordering, you might find your car is already out there "JUST WAITING FOR YOU!"

I would agree except I am eyeing a 2012 T3 Bumblebee pretty hard lol. I've thought about just going with a regular 2LT/RS M6 in a few other colors (either syn green, yellow, or imperial blue). Still not quite sure though. Ordering that Bumblebee might be what puts the pen to the paper the day I order though lol. But I do know I want a V6 LT2 with a 6 speed. I'll keep in touch with my dealer and just see.

It's very easy. As the post above says, make sure your dealer does have the allocation to place an immediate order. You may or may not have to put down a deposit (it usually depends if the dealer thinks what you're ordering is something they could sell should you back out). Paperwork is done upon delivery.

Here's how it works- you pick up the phone and call Becky D at Rodgers Chevrolet, save a ton of money, and when your car gets delivered to you, you drive away with a smile. At least that's what I did.

Ok, so I guess it's unanimous about signing once the car is delivered. That's very good to know. I appreciate all your help guys (and gals since I know there are some here). I plan on calling my dealer this week and seeing what he has to say about ordering. Within a few weeks, I may head down and we'll crunch some numbers if he has the allocation to order. If not, I'll look elsewhere.

@04Ram, the issue with that is I live in Alabama. I'm looking for a local dealer.

I live in Montana and ordered the car from Becky. The Camaro was delivered to my local dealer right here in Missoula, MT.

I compared Becky's price to the local guys, and she saved me $2500. Get the best price from your local guy, and compare it to what Becky can do. There's a reason she's a sponsor on here with so many rave reviews, and not one negative review. It's the only time I've enjoyed buying a new car, and she still checks in with me on the car and other things. You'll end up buying a car and getting a friend, and I wonder how many other times folks could say that while buying a car?

Here's her info, take a look yourself: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/member.php?u=11374

Very nice, thanks! I may talk to her and see what she can do. Any money that can be saved is a plus for me. And the fact that she provides great customer service and friendliness adds to that. I'll definitely check in with her.

From Becky D

Starting July 26th, unallocated sold orders for
Camaro coupe and convertible will be processed
by GM - that means no more waiting for the
dealers to place them
This means once your dealer orders your car, GM will pick up
the order and process it. It may not get picked
up the same day, but should within a couple of
days of the order, unless the order has unbuildable
options or holds.
