Service Manager working with me

I drove to my local dealership today with my trunk full of the XS POWER exsaust system and talked to the assistant service manager and who I think was the service manager about what I could put on and my warranty. The first ? was are you having it put on here?
I said sure give me a price. Well it was 5 to 6 hundred. I think thats a bit high but we are at a dealership. So we talk and he pretty much tells me I can put it all on and drive with a cel. Dont mess with the tune. Im thinking this is good, this guy is going to take care of me as long as I let them do the work. Fine. Before I leave he tells me that most guys tune thier cars and just change the tune back to factory before they come back for work. SHI# I knew that but I didnt think he was suppose to say that. Im thinking it would be worth developing this relationship even if I think its a high price. The dealership is 5 mi. down the road and is not where I bought the car. This is sounding good to me but I will go over this again with him to make sure we are on the same page. Am I thinking right here? This is good right?

So basically your going off a "yeah your fine if we put it on"- unless you get it in writing or personally know the guy dont trust him- they cant void the exhaust--- if you roll in there with a busted motor theyre going to deny it- what are they going to tell the assesor who comes to look at the motor ( granted this even happens..)- "oh yea i said it was fine if they put it on and rode around with the cel"- no theyre going to lie like hell.. its the tune ( not needed if just a catback) that causes the warranty issues. Save yourself some money, install it yourself, and be done with it.

My service guy said the same thing. I think talk is cheap. Hard to really know what will happen when you have a blown something or shot transmission! The amount of upgrades you can do without worrying about your warranty is pretty limited!

Thanks for the replys. Yes 5 to 6 hundred for install. You guys are right to say be careful and I dont take chit chat for a contract. I do think these guys want to work on my car. They were all over it .They liked it . These were young guys 30s and we had a pretty good takk. Even if I dont get tuned I think its good to have a dealership you like.I know I dont like them yet but we will see. How high is that price? I dont have a lift and cant lay on the garage floor anymore. What would a muffler charge?

Install it yourself and have someone weld in 3" magnaflow highflow metallic cats and you won't even get a check engine light. I've had my xs power system with magnaflow cats for over 1500 miles now with no tune, and no check engine light. I have the full system (longtube headers and all). Sounds great, no warranty issues as I am on the stock tune, and runs great!

Why would you get a CEL with just a cat back? These guys are pulling your dick. unless you're talking headers and hi flow cats, you won't have any codes or warranty issues.

$4-5 hundred to install a catback is ludacris. If it's headers too... Well that's different.

Yeah this is LT headers all the way to the tips. Still a high price.

Thanks again for getting back. I guess im thinking is it worth letting these guy do the work at an admitted high price and developing a working relationship with them. If at some point I like these guys , they are 5 mi. away. They pick me up and drop me off when I have work done, warranty work. Im not letting anyone screw me but if you have a car in warranty it nice to have someone you like , close. Thats worth something.

That price seems fine, because they will warranty their work ... For what it's worth, it's my understanding that the ECM keeps a count of the times and date it's been flashed. GM keeps track of the OEM flashes through their work history database. Anytime a dealer updates or reflashes the ECM it is authorized by GM by your VIN ...

I know guys read here and there and not the whole thread. This is not a cat back. LT headers back to the tips. What would a muffler shop charge for this install?
