Disconnecting neg battery for CAI install?

UPS tracker says my long-awaited K&N Typhoon intake is finally on my front porch so I can't wait to get home to install it.
The very first step in their on-line install instructions say to disconnect the negative battery connection. They wouldn't say that without a reason but is that really necessary? Will doing so mess up things like the windows indexing properly or radio anti-theft, etc?
Also (and please don't flame me 'cause I'm not able to look under the hood right now), where is the negative connection on these cars?

The battery is in the trunk, where the spare tire goes. I for one did not disconnect the battery, instead did a fuse pull to reset the computer.

I had to disconnect mine to install the CAI...at first when I reconnected it the windows weren't indexing properly but after a few mins they went back to normal...it's been 5months and my car has been working properly with no problems

which fuse(s) did you pull to reset the computer? If it was the number 5 & 20, i'm sorry to tell you, you didn't reset anything. That's only for the v8 camaro, and it's for resetting their fuel tables...

No need to do a battery disconnect as you really are not playing with any live voltage. Just be careful when you take the MAF sensor out and do not touch it. Enjoy the new CAI.

Yeah, when we switch to an aftermarket intake it's not like we're throwing in a cam or adding a supercharger or anything. At most it seems like it would take a few miles for the ECM to adjust to the slightly better airflow.

the disconnect is to prevent a CEL (check engine light) in other words, your chances of getting a CEL without disconnecting are HIGHER but that doesnt mean that you will get one
