Whoa. I haven't heard about this. It was bound to happen. Time to go check the Weather Channel...

EDIT: It's not a hurricane yet. Only a tropical storm. It has winds of 40 MPH right now, but will have winds of 60 MPH by the time it hits the southern tip of Florida.

I am in Puerto Rico, we should be getting the winds and rain today during the afternoon, it's going to pass around 150 miles south of us (as of 8:30a.m.).

it is expected to be category 1 on saturday winds of 74 mph is cat 1. not a huge threat but needs to be monitored. as a spearfisher scuba diver i can tell you that the ocean is abnormally warm right now. normally the warm water is only the top 20 feet of water but right now it is warm all the way to the bottom in 100 feet of water. this could potentially fuel a storm up fast. andrew was only a cat 1 24 hours before it made landfall.

Amazing to have made it til August without a hurricane yet! Not like 2005, that's for sure!

Very true. Cat. 1s are still huge storms.

And I realized this too. I was at the beach in June, and the waters were warmer than usual. So it wouldnt surprise me if this thing turned bad quick.

typically storms just start coming mid august and peak in september and decline in october. 2004 and 2005 were both bad years and since we have had very little activity luckily..... what sucks is i am supposed to compete in a race on saturday and then go on a cruise on sunday. really hoping this thing speeds up and gets out of here so we can still do our trip

Guess we'll see if mom likes Florida after this hurricane season, she just moved down to Tampa this year from Detroit.

we could use a good soaking rain but not a huge nasty storm. Either way I will be prepared for the worst just in case.

storm seems to be making more of a turn now and might not make hurricane status although these things change by the hour it seems. always worth monitoring. tampa will be safe this time..... tampa is way better than detroit lol.... im from michigan originally. 17 yrs ago i moved to florida and would never consider going back.

Yep, 2005 what a year for hurricanes.

Dennis brushed by us on our wedding day in Florida, then Emily hit us head on in Talum, Mexico on our honeymoon a week later!

Spent 2 night in a shelter in a school in Cancun

I love hurricane swells. Keeps the kooks out of the water, more waves for me

Forecast is showing the swell starting on Thurs and continues to build throughout the weekend with a 6 to 7 ft @ 12 sec tic on Saturday. Models show that Sunday and Monday are gonna be firing!

See ya on the outside! Hype!
