can someone help (voltage problum)

so i have my first major problum with my camaro i could use some help or insight i am going to call my dealer but...

the voltage on my camaro is droping badly i believe when i look at my DIC "normal" is something like 14.2 volts but i noticed it when i used my radar it shut off in a safe mode cause the volts was too look looked yep 12.2 and i was driveing home and with out the radar on and only the music playing (daylight out so daylight lights on) it was hovering around 12.5 .4ish

wtf is going worng with my camaro i had auto zone do a test on it and it said bad battery but he was doing it upfront not from the battery in the trunk its self ugh WTF!

I had a similar question. I noticed the same thing and contacted the dealer. They said it's normal. I watched the voltage drop to 12.2 then it comes back up to 14.8, then back down, then back up. It's the way the voltage regulator works in these cars. My wifes LS and My SS as well as my Traverse all do the exact same thing. Turn the DIC to the voltage reading then drive the car and see if it goes back up and so forth. If it does then you have nothing to worry about. Now if it stays at 12.2 then you need to get it checked out.

The voltage reg. is in the alternator. If it fluctuates that much then there is a problem with the alt.

so how would this effect my radar? cause when it got to that point it automatic shuts off (also my radar has a built in volt meter to montior my cars voltage) if this is "normal" its going to screw with my radar GAH

the dealer needs to replace the alt. When the batt. volts drop below 13 vdc then the reg. turns the alt. on to keep the volts above 13 while running.
Your reg. isnt kicking on when it is supposed to.

I'm thinking a loose negative. Check terminals at the battery. Its a 12 volt system, so in the 12 and up is all ok. Fluctuating like that sounds like a loose terminal

A loose terminal is going to give you a low volt. reading at the battery and a high reading at the alt.

I am a certified mech. fellas.
