Question Opinions Wanted

Hi everyone, new member here. I bought my 5th gen camaro about 4 months ago and absolutely love it! As a mechanical engineer I could not resist customizing it, so I designed a hood vent (patent pending) and had a friend make an aluminum sample with his CNC machine. Before I pay him to make the final version, I was hoping to get some feedback from fellow G5 Camaro owners. Below are a couple pics, let me know what you think. Be frank, I have thick skin . I just want something that looks clean and is functional.

I know there are many aftermarket hoods available, but I really wanted to design my own heat extraction solution that looks good, uses the original hood without compromising its strength, and will keep water out of the engine bay (working on the water duct design now).

Thanks! Is there anything you'd change? One concern I have is the vent alignment with my stripes, they fall on the outer edge (the hood shown is just for prototyping).

Wow that looks awesome. Maybe I would of went a little more towards the windshield with it. But hey that looks great.

I like how it is incorporated into the under hood structure. As far as the stripes go, you can go right through the vent or follow their contour.

Thanks Deez . Yea, I agree with you. But, I didn't want to cut the webbing/frame on the underside of the hood so I designed it to fit in the largest frame opening (see the third pic of the underside).

Wow! That looks factory. I like it and I'm not usually into that type of stuff. I wonder how long it will be until someone steals the design and sells them on ebay.

The last thing I wanted with an aluminum hood was to weaken it structurally; the aluminum is so thin I'm sure it would warp when cutting it.

Good idea on following the vent contour with the stripes, I may buy a set and try that on the prototype hood.

LOL! You're right. As a mechanical engineer the first thing you learn how to do is file provisional patents on your new work Of course, when it costs $750 to machine one vent out of aluminum I doubt there's a large market for them.
