$66/month for full coverage insurance on my 2012 Camaro? WHAAAA...?

Car insurance can be so strange...

I am a 28 year old male about to buy a brand new red sports car. Now I've only had one ticket my entire life, which was two years ago, and no accidents.

When I went to our current insurance company, they quoted me about $120 a month, which I considered slightly high, but acceptable. We're talking about full coverage, 500/500 deductibles, 100/300/100 liability, with some bells and whistles thrown in (roadside assistance + rental car benefits).

Then I got an online quote from a major insurer for $88/month which I was ecstatic about.

So I took that quote to our current insurance company and told them I liked them, and wanted to keep doing business with them, but an online company had *seriously* undercut their prices. I asked if there was anything they could do.

And then she prints out this ludicrous quote for $66 a month, and I'm still looking it over and trying to find out what they left out. Is only the front half of the car insured? Can it be true? 500/500 deductibles, 100/300/100 liability, plus road side service and more.

What the hell Camaro5? I was paying $88 a month with them for liability only on my 1995 Firebird up until now!

So, what's your rate?

We pay $240 a month for a 2010 Camaro SS, a 2006 Ram 2500 diesel, a 2012 Honda Civic, a 1992 S10 and a 1989 IROC... only the S10 isnt full coverage.

So, thats sounds about right. All 4 cars with full coverage are about the same per month if you break it down.

I guess military + married + I'm getting a V6 also helps my rate.

But what I thought I should be paying for car insurance was apparently way off. I wonder how many people out there are overpaying?

Full coverage on the SS and my wife's VW Tiguan is 105/mo.
We're both 28.
I've had several tickets, but none have gone on my record.

The older and cleaner you are the less you pay.

holy... my insurance quoted me $140/ month, same coverage as yours! which online insurance company quoted you for only $88/month?! I'd love to check it out and show it to my current insurance company!

You know, I was actually looking at getting a $0 deductible, but then I thought:

If I do $200 damage to my car, am I really going to claim it and watch my premiums rise? Or won't I probably just fix it and pay myself anyways to stay accident and claim free...?

So a $500 deductible makes sense.

Also when I looked at the math, if I stay accident/claim free for a little less than 2 years I've saved the $500 I would have spent on higher premiums for no deductible.

gamma, it was USAA, but I'm not sure if you can get car insurance through them.

I think they only offer banking to everyone, but stuff like insurance is for the uniformed.... but I could be wrong.
