Car dilemma
Hi, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster (for camaro 5).
For reference my current vehicles are: 2001 Silverado Z71-LT headers, Dyno Tune, Exhaust, Intake, 100's of small touches. ![]() ![]() 2008 Corvette Z06 - Mostly stock, no performance upgrades. ![]() 2007 Mustang GT 5spd (Wife's) - magnaflow exhaust, newer wheels (not pictured) ![]() Past vehicles(most recent to oldest): 1994 Explorer Limited 1996 Trans-Am WS6 1997 F150 Lariat Cliff notes in 3rd post I am in a bit of a vehicle dilemma; I am trying to decide if I should sell my customized truck and Z06. I would be looking at a 2012 sierra with a 6.2L and a 2012 SS. It is a bit long, but I would like to hear some opinions. For reference I have test drove a camaro SS before and liked the power, but wasn't too keen on the visibility (before i bought the Z, December 2010), but that is not really an issue. The SS was an option when I bought the Z06, but I had always wanted a Z06. Z06 Positives. - blinding power -factory built race car -extended warranty until 2015 - Wanted it for a long time -love the color -slightly unique Z06 Negatives -Not very customizable (IMO) -not the most comfortable -big price tag -my car is largely stock, and most upgrades have been done (by other)or cost allot. (and don't care for most) -power can get out of hand in 1st gear -car dosen’t fell like “mine” (not really custom) -Flashy (not me), target for idiots SS Positives -Good power -Largely comfortable -tons of customization -beautiful -customization leads to the car being “mine” SS Negatives -more then a second slower to 60 then the Z -to get the power I want would require a supercharger -would want to build a supercharged 454 LSX, but what s the point, only like the power for moving through traffic and out on the HWY, don’t race. -Customization could add up to more than the price of the Z06 -Don’t want to modify to a point where it’s uncomfortable Truck vs. Truck -I would like to get a 6.2L truck before production ends -Hard to sell by truck (had for 6 years now) -my truck starting to nickel and dime me -tired of the loose steering in my truck (tried everything to fix it) Other consiterations: Used CTS-v -Good Power, faster than an SS, has 4 doors -Large price tag, still couldn’t get a truck, horrible on gas ZL1 -Great power, has the looks and factory power & warranty -will carry a premium for a few months, still no new truck. OK so it seems to me that you like having the power of a high performance car, but don't really use it. Which is perfectly fine, God knows I'm not even pushing my camaro past 5 most of the time. On a 1-10 scale. You mention that you didn't like the visibility issues of the camaro, I don't get that. I have 0 visibility issues. I can watch a car go from my rear view mirror, to my side mirror to my peripheral vision. Just need to set the mirrors all correctly. All that being said though I still don't really know what your dilemma is. Are you trying to convince yourself that you want the SS over the vette, or that you want the ZL1 over the vette, etc etc?

I guess the visibility issues i had was just the overall feeling. My head was hitting the roof pillar (over the door) and my wife felt like she couldn't see over the "sholder" (top of door) line. It is allot more of a cave feeling vs. her mustang. but truthfully a non issue
My dilemma is should I keep what I have and be happy or trade to 2 vehicles that have a little less power, but more customization options and are fast enough in their own right (6.2L Sierra and SS). If i do this, will I miss the power and end up spending more money for a unique car that is just as fast. Last edited by stone150; 08-11-2011 at 05:55 PM. |

Thats funny, b/c I have been considering trading in the SS for the Z. Not sure if I can part with my baby, but would be difficult to have both considering I cant drive either in the winter.

When I first sat in the Camaro, I noticed the visability thing. After the first time, I never had any problems or issues with it except for merging to the right.

If you don't plan on tracking the car, keep the SS. I much more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. You have to tip toe around the throttle below 60 mph. |

If you think you have to watch your vette like a hawk - wait til you get a Camaro (any model) - these hot, sexy beasts are still turning heads harder than ever after 2 years.
It's a great car and you can customize it to make it yours. No one has one like I've modded mine. Great daily driver, and only moderate concerns with the blindspots, but I always turn my head anyway just to be sure. Good Luck. |
