Arrow Paint Fading Already?

I've had my SS since December of 2009. I always park it in my garage unless I got out and I'm forced to park it in the streets or parking lots. I go to school so the car is parked for about 5-6 hours. Today I parked it in front of my friends apartment and was looking at the car, it isn't looking black. Looks like the black is fading almost. There wasn't that much dust on the car, maybe a little bit, I washed the car and used spray wax on Thursday. Should I be worried about this? Is it really fading or am I just being paranoid?

Pictures would help, and no it shouldn’t be fading now, unless something is wrong or some type of chemical or “sanding” has occurred. As always you can have your dealer take a look.

Give it a shot waxing it and see where it goes. You could even try leaving it out in a good rain storm to see if that removes the fading look (not that rain is known to do that). Also, try a good paste wax, or even liquid, to really bring out the luster. I have heard that Black cars are difficult to keep pristine, but I wouldn't panic too much yet.

Ya good points, like stated try a good wash without the wax, then wax and see if it helps. It could just be build up from the spray wax giving it a haze look.

Has anyone with a black car ever used those black paste waxes? Is it any good?

If there are, I highly recommend Dr. Color Chip to repair them.

It is possibly an effect of the spray wax you put on thurs streaking once it was in sun. If so, just wash and wax it, should be fine.

No chips in the paint. I'll use a paste wax the next time I wash the car to see if it makes it better

I use the black wax! First I wash it with quality car wash soap, then I used a clay bar to remove anything that might do any damage to the paint then I used the black wax as directed. When finished it's like shes had a new paint job ! However it's lots of work . but well worth it!

Just a guess....it sounds like you are seeing a film haze from the spray wax you are using. Spray wax should only be used to clean or detail a small area (fingerprints, bird crap, etc.). I wouldn't use it to "wax" the entire car.

I'm a detailing junkie and two of my prior cars were black. Black with no metal flake like to "fade" into a brownish black. Its just the paint being normal. I'd suggest if you'd like to go crazy....Wash it. Clay bar it. If you want to remove defects get a good cutting compound and it'll remove the swirls and etc for the most part. Here is the important part. A GOOD polish this will bring the depth back to the black and then you use a good sealant (ie wax). If youre using a more expensive wax you will get the streaking cause the wax "sweats" due to the humidtity and carnuba content....Anyway if you need some recommendations PM me.

It is probably just in need of a good polish job. Get a "soft" pad and a 3M polish.Any paint supply shop will have it. This will remove the fine swirls / scratches that make the black paint look faded. With black paint you just need to be very careful what type of wax you use also. Make sure you do not use any wax with "cleaners" in them. This is actually a fine "grit" and will leave swirls in the paint.
