HR L99 to LS3 Camshaft Dyno Numbers and Video

Tim (Rockit_z28) has been a great customer of ours and I wanted to share with you guys the results of the L99 to LS3 swap we just did on his car.

Run down of the modifications installed by Heintz Racing

Kooks 1 7/8 Headers
Cattd Mid Pipes
Magnaflow Catback
Roto-Fab CAI
Vigilante 3200 Stall
160 T Stat
ATI Underdrive Pulley
Melling Oil Pump
C5R Timing Chain
Comp Trunion Upgrade
HR Custom Camshaft 22x 23x .58x .60x 113+2 LSA
Patroit .650 Valvespring Set
Hardened Pushrods
LPE L99 to LS3 Swap Kit
Stock Compression Ratio
BMR Suspension Components
Tuning Via HP Tuners

Here is a dyno graph of the results. The lowest run is what L99 cars dyno stock on our dyno. The second run is Tims car with just a CAI, Headers, Catback, and Tune. The Third run is all that is listed above. If you take a look out at around 6500, the camshaft picked up the car around 90 RWHP!

Peak Gains with the addition of the cam were +63 RWHP and +20 RWTQ. The torque carrys way farther into the RPM range, and at times picked up around +60 ft lbs.

Here is the video of the run-

Enjoy!

Great job!

When I get my shop finished and I'm going to have to pay you a visit

You didn't happen to get a video of that cam idling?

just wondering, why does the green graph line go backwards at the start of the pull? i've never seen that before

Could be a few things, one it could be where the button was pushed on the dyno before he was completely at wide open throttle, two, it could be a touch of tire spin, or 3 it could be where the converter flashes to which would be my guess there. A higher stall converter is more less designed to slip until your determined stall speed. This stall is at 3200 which is close to the start of the pull. If you listen closely in the video, you can hear when the stall tightens up on the dyno right at the hit of WOT.

Very cool but I was expecting around 425rwhp with all those mods. I only have a full exhaust and CAI on mine.

Dynos are going to read differently, they are tuning tools. Instead of looking at the overall peak number, look at the gains associated with the modifications that were done. That and track numbers will tell the story Take for instance, your car made 369 on a different dyno with full exhaust and an intake. This car with full exhaust, and an intake made 340 on our dyno. That is 29 HP difference. If you use that same difference, the 403 + the 29 difference is a touch over the 425 you were referring to. It is all relative in a sense.

Absolutely, I agree that there are differences just didn't think they would differ that much. I am sure that L99 is beast now. I'd love to do the same setup.

thanks for sharing

Just got back from picking up the car or can I now say my new SS Rocket! The car sounds and runs incredible and more in line with what I was expecting this car to be. If anyone is on the fence about a cam, I say it was the best money I have invested into this car to date.

The guys at Heintz Racing our incredible. A big thanks to Jeff, Zach and Bob for all their hard work and professionalism. I highly recommend them to anyone in the area looking to get work completed.

I cannot wait to get this beast to the track and see what it does. To Zach's point and when we were making decisions about my car, I wanted a strong track car and not necessarily big dyno numbers.

Awesome! Please post some vids with couple of revs. Also, How does it feel when you take off from a stop? That stall converter must be awesome.

I will try to get some additional videos this weekend.

My trip home included my 8 year old so I had to take it a little easy. I did a few nice pulls with it and it's amazing how quickly the stall can get you into the power band. I did run a stall in my LS1 so I knew what to expect.

Unfortunately, no chance to see how well the Pirelli's hold up or fail with the new additions.

I would bet the converter is robbing a few ponies depending on how efficient it is.
