what is the best oil for FI apps, honest opinions

I have done so much reading, and in all honesty I am more confused !!! So what oil is every one using for turbo and or super charged apps and why. PS I didnt post this in the oil section because its only for the FI crowd.

I was told 15w in a new engines wasnt good...that a 0 or 5 weight was recommended...But what I really want is the top brand..the weight is basically adopted to temp. So lower 0 are used in a colder climate and the higher numbers in a hotter ambient climate. But who can tell me the best overall brand in any climate..all other things equal..so far i am inclined to think amsoil based on all the research and inform they have put out. any one care to chime on this?

Oil brands are like the M6/A6 arguments.....you will never ever find consensus...everyone has different favorites based on preferences or opinions and reality is that both are great.

Same applies to oil. Run any good brand and change it regularly and you are good to go.

Depends on where you live.

Canada Cold, Thinner Stuff
Arizona hot, Thicker Stuff

Typically I would follow ur Manufactures oil recommended and weight for normal driving use anyways. This goes for 95% of you.

GM recommends Moble 1, and she’s a very good oil. Amsoil, very good, personally not a fan of Royal Purple engine oil, I've seen the inside of a LS engine that religiously used RP, did not like the purple dye I found in the engine.

Royal Purple SyncroMax Tranny fluid, very good, ! As well as Rear end Fluid.

For heavy high rpm driving, I would check and change the oil more often as well as run a little thicker oil.

I typically run 10w 30 Full Syn during the summer, 5w/30 winter.
Track use high rpm, 15w50.

Here are good reads on Oil, & Oil filters.
Oil Filter Study, AC DELCO did not test well. :(
http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/oilfilterstudy.html

Here is a consumer reports motor oil test.
http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/misc/all_oilfaq.html

Have fun !

Most important thing, Check your oil often!! I've seen many LS engines with low oil come through, due to their driving habits, causing premature bearing wear if not checked often. Remember, the harder you are on the engine the more oil it will consume, it's only natural.

I heard of that shop....however what I request is solid lab tests and real world experience. basically an impartial lab test of 3 brands, mobil, amsoil and synergyn...The last one is extremely hard to find info or even buy. But I had an experience with it. That convinced me that it was extremely good. But it would be great if engine builders across the board told us what they used and why...its a start in the right direction

My friend has a GT 500. His manual says 5-50. Ford sells this synthetic oil.

My builder uses Amsoil, thus, I use Amsoil, he built and supports the motor...

I also change my oil every 2500 miles. Period... Like I've said before, my motor, my turbo's, and my money... call it what you will...

First and foremost the most important thing is to keep the oil fresh and clean.
Synthetic oil is a must.

Most off the shelf brands. (i.e. mobil 1, valvoline synthetic, castrol edge, etc...) are using the exact same standards, brands such as mobil 1 actually dropped the quality of there oils to meet the new standards. (they figured why be better if we're not gona get credit for it).

Most of my clients up into the 600rwhp range receive 10w-30 Mobil 1, and we've been very happy with it.

However for the "Big dog cars 800+" we step it up to either Amsoil, or Torco Oils which use a much higher grade base 5 oil.

Hope this helps.

If the the folks that built the engine recommend 5w-30 and you think 15w-50 is better.....would 75w-140 be better yet?

i know from just common chemistry that the thinner oils are better...its the temp degradation that determines the point where an oil loses its protection...Obviously syns are much better in general...I just want the best all around brand. Old motor head i suppose u where being sarcastic. I like humor but i am asking for serious opinions..if u want to go bash what some one stated or me for just agreeing on here do so after u have valuable input.
