Concerns before Ordering. Camaro in winter/snow?

Hello,

I am in the process of possibly getting a 2012 1LT Black on Beige INT RS Camaro. I think they are stunning and love them, but I'm starting to have some cold feet.

I live in Michigan right on Lake Huron about 40 miles north of Detroit. This car would be a daily driver for the most part. Winters are not "usually" too bad here, a storm here or there but nothing too crazy like they get in the UP or the West side of the state. And I work in the city. My commute is about 1 mile to work and home. I guess the part that is spooking me is idea that I am paying all this money for a car that may not be able to cut it in the snow or winter.

I have loved this car since I first saw it, but not sure if its more a fun car vs. A everyday daily car.

Thanks

there is a post here somewhere that the Camaro is great in snow. just do a search under "snow" it may pop up.....i am fortunate enough that my baby is stored in the winters. but the car is awesome......

From what i have heard as long as you have snow tires on it, it preforms great in snow. I had the same concern as mine will be my daily driver also.

it's not the car - it's the tires. I live outside Chicago. I have driven a 2005 corvette and a 2008 corvette through seven winters as my daily driver with absolutely no problems. Blizzaks and Pirellis did the trick.

I have a 2012 2ss convertible on order that just went to 3000. the Pirellis are coming from Tire Rack this week.

check out tire rack for all your winter driving questions. or check out the winter thread in the wheel and tire section of this website.

drive it all year and have fun!!!!!

Can you somehow at the dealer have the tires exchanged. Sad part is I really love the HID Headlights but I really dont want the Summer Only Tires. I would be happy with the All Seasons so I wouldn't be completely screwed in the winter with the Summer tires?

I don't know if Dealers will put "All-Season" tires on a car if it doesn't already come with them. However, your best bet in snow are tires that are specifically for snow. Get them mounted on wheels so you can bolt off the originals and bolt on the snow tires/wheels when you need to.

I agree with the mentioning of TireRack.com also, they are great.

What the hell, the other guy drove 2 Corvettes through winter and they sit lower then the Camaro. if a Vette can do it, a Camaro sure can. Just make sure you get Blizzacks or Michelians.

I just don't get it.

Why are people so afraid to drive RWD cars in the snow? Yea, maybe FWD and AWD cars are more stable in the snow, but come on, in reality FWD has only been around for a short time compared to RWD cars. We drove RWD cars for years and years in the snow on worse roads and a lot less snow removal equipment than we have now.

Just my 2 cents.

Wow gotta say I'm a little surprised for ppl to say don't buy the car. I am a young professional I don't have the privedge of having my car stored for 6 months out of the year, but man by your logic ppl from Canada or anywhere north of kentucky shouldn't buy camaros for daily drivers

I can't quite understand when the camaro became a exotic car because ppl are really treating them that way. I understand if you got a crazy 2SS but for a daily driver like a LS or 1lt I'm shocked to say the least.

Check out Craigslist in your area; guys are always selling the stock 18" tires and rims cheap. You can use the rims as your winter swaps and just keep snow tires on them in storage in the summer.
