V6 Cam Timing Error

I am having extreme power loss on my 2010 V6. Doesnt miss, but has not balls at all. Took it to a mechanic friend and he hooked it up to the standard, he got a Cam Timing Error. He said that this V6 engine is notorious for oil issues that affect this. Essentially he explained that if the oil gets long in the tooth it will throw the timing off. He said essentially the timing is retarded and there is a severe power loss. So I changed the oil and no change. Anyone know of any issues out there like this or what I can do?
Thanks

There is a similar issue on the V6 engines for Traverse type vehicles. It is all over the net. Look up the CEL code. I believe it is p0007 or p0011

we were just in a gm class about these engines,i would suggest take it in to your dealer for poss warr.issue.i think we counted 8-10 different sensors and solenoids that are actively controlling timing on these engines and there are common problems with them right down to the exciter ring on the crank slipping so just take it in

So how does a person go about figuring out what is causing this issue? I am less than thrilled about taking it in right out of the gate and was wondering if there were some tests I can perform myself to see what is going on.

That's what technicians are for. Without the training, tools, service manual, and parts dept, I doubt you're going to do much DIY with a cam timing error.

BTW here is the scoop on what happened:
I know this is an older thread but figured I would post for prosperity's sake: Just had my car into the dealer for loss of power and an engine light. Guess what? Streched timing chain and I have 42K miles on it. Talked to the guy at Chevy and he said they have been seeing this in a lot of other models but not the Camaro. This is the first one they saw it in. He said there is a stronger timing chain that they are going to put in. All covered under the powertrain warranty.... THANK GOD!!!!

funny you posted back in this. I did a hard pull today and all of a sudden my car felt like a SLUG! After some time it seemed to gain some power back. Bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. The rpm tach goes up smooth but comes down notchy now! But it does this even when it starts up and does that first full swipe so im hoping its just the guages.

The car is running like a Raped Ape!!! I swear to God the power that is there now is amazing. I dont think it ever had that kind of power before. Maybe there was an issue present from day 1??? Dont know, but I know that this baby is cooking!!! Good luck with yours. The guys over at Christianson Chevy in Highland IN were awesome. They got the car in and out in 2 days. Wonderful service.

Is there a way you could scan the work ticket and post it? I, and others, would benefit from it if something like this happens to us. It would give us the "Customer states......" and their diagnosis, parts and fix. That would be great info!

Did they tell you what code you threw? And don't we have more that one timing chain? Did they replace them all?

I think the car was having a problem long before the CEL becuase it didnt have this much power before. Im not sure if GM would do anything without a CEL though. I never had an RPM issues with my problem. Just loss of power
