Any veternarians or vet technicians??? Kitten question..

I don't know if I'll get an answer, but hey ya never know. We have been fostering a female cat that had a litter of 6 kittens. Mom gets lots of food along with treats, so the kittens are growing! One little orange colored guy has a back end that doesn't seem quite right. He gets around without problems, but his legs tend to go out to the sides, instead of staying under his body. I've been watching him closer over this past long weekend and one time he scrambled to get away from an annoying sibling and his back legs really didn't "walk" they "pushed". Almost like flippers???? I will call the vet that is recommended by the rescue organization we're fostering for, but not until tomorrow in case they want to see him (I'm going in for nights tonight). I couldn't live with myself if it is a problem that can be fixed and I don't. My concern is, if the little guy has trouble with the litter box, it puts him into the "special needs" category and that means it will be unlikely he'll be adopted :(. Anyone have any ideas to put my mind at ease???

Might have either a neurological problem or a developmental problem while in the womb. Have the vet check it out.

He might just be a little underdeveloped for his age. Really hard to tell, from the explanation. I would just go to the Vet. and see what they have to say. He might be fine after a while and more developed. How old do you think the kittens are ??? Do you have pics of the Kitten in question ?? Just trying to picture what you saying is hard. I am sure it will be fine, if there is something worng you would be suprised that it can be fixed by a Vet. It might cost a lot to get him right if something major is worng. But I highly doubt there is anything that bad with him. I had a cat break a leg at the hip/ball joint. They went in cut the ball out and it heals up and develops scar tissue for the ball and he walks fine now. Has a slight limp, think it was a little over 2K to fix it. He is also a indoor cat, so it was probably a breed/previous owner thing. I got him at approx 1 yrs of age and he was in bad health. The previous person was not taking care of him like he should have been. Just dont get why she spent over 3K for a cat and to not keep him in good health. But now that I have him he has been doing good, minus the broke leg. But hey he is like my kid, it is what it is. He is a Savannha which is a hybrid. Not just your average cat LOL

Sure I know how old the kittens are.....my wife woke me up on a Monday morning 3 wks ago to tell me our pregnant foster cat has 4 kittens. When I got out of bed to see them, the count was up to 5.

So they are now 3 wks and a day old. A quick call to the vet should clear things up. He is clumsy, but still manages to move quickly. I saw him scratching his ear this morning with his back leg, so is there really a problem?

Ya, I know the explanation wasn't the best JETG. With his back legs splayed out he looks like a frog.

Maybe hip dysplasia? Don't know how common it is in cats, but your description fits... I'm not a vet, but have had dogs with dysplasia.

I doubt he has a problem at all, being that young. If he is scratching his head and walking, sounds like he will be all good in due time. Post a pic of the little guy ??? when you have a chance.

Here is a couple of my crazy cat, and he is nutz to say the least. Actually want another one, but might be a Bengal for company. They are much cheaper, than the Savannahs. So would be 500-1000 or so compaired to 3K+..

He is a cool cat, just to damn expensive to get another one. Well knowing me, I will buy another one. Just means less mods for a month or so

JETG....I say this in the nicest way with respect BUT why would you spend that much money when there are SOOOOO many nice, loving cats in local humane societies, rescue organizations, etc. Shoot, we have 6 maybe 7 (if I can't talk my better half into keeping at least one) that will need homes in the near future. Just think, adopting a rescue cat will be $75-$100 (or cheaper I can't say for sure what prices are in the US) so you will have at LEAST $400 free money not spent on an exotic cat, to put towards your Camaro AND you'll be giving a home to a thankful cat who through no fault of their own, ended up without a home !!!

I'm cooking up some scrambled eggs to eat before I go in for 1 lousy night shift and Missy is waiting for me to give her some pieces of cheese. She knows exactly what the cheese is when it comes out of the frig and starts going right squirrelly.
