new 2012 @ 37k vs. used 2010 @ 32k

i'm torn on buying a camaro. i finally can buy one and now that i'm here and was certain i would buy a 2012 with the 45th package, i find that i'll be waiting (most likely without a car) for 6 weeks while it gets built. that's made me think a little bit harder about it and i've realized that buying a used 2010 for around 32k allows me to skip that 2-year 5k depreciation hit the 2012 will most likely see as well (and it's 5k cheaper today). then again, maybe it's just eating at me at how inconvenient it will be to not have a car for 6 weeks.

i'd still be going for a 2SS regardless, so i know the $5k more for the 2012 will get me the FE4 suspension, rear view camera, and approximately 2 more years of a factory warranty. but is that worth waiting and getting the 2012 instead? what are your thoughts?

Also keep in mind that the 2012s have the kinks worked out - mostly. 2010 was the first year for the Camaro and there might be a few bugs. If it were me I'd go for the '12 (and I did..lol)

Also remember the 32k asking price for the 2010 can and should be dickered down to 29k.

I have the 2010 2SS.....if you know you are going to keep the car for 4-5 years then I'd advise going new - your car and your peace of mind. Interests rates have never been so low for new either - plus 2 for new.

If you're planning on not modding anytime soon then definitely go for the 2012....warranty alone would cost about $1,500 extra for the 2010.

Your choice - good luck!

The 2012 has an upgraded interior as well. I wouldn't Worry about the 5k hit you'll be taking.

New steering wheel, upgraded dash materials, and more. For me, the difference in price is worth it for a new one.

2012 also will have HUD as the 2010 will not. Also consider interest rates for new cars vs used cars, the rates are usually higher on used cars

Im in the same boat. I originally wanted to just order one so I could get everything exactly how I wanted it, and Ive never had a brand new car lol. But then I figured Id just buy a used one for under 30k and save myself 5k+. Problem is it will be hard to find exactly what I want, especially around here.

i didn't consider the 2010 "bugs." but how many/what type of bugs we talking about in the 2010? and you're right, the only thing the car is missing is the HUD, which i actually think is really cool. otherwise it is a 2SS with the RS package and looks fantastic inside and out, and has a CPO warranty (even though i don't know how reputable GM's CPO warranty is?).

still, getting the price to 29-30k over 37k new is pretty significant (20%) if everything but HUD is present in the 2010 also. the interest rate difference between the two you can probably make up in paying less taxes on a $30k car vs. a $37k car also, and in my particular case i will be putting down at least 30% so i doubt the financing rates will hurt me too much in either car purchase i choose.

i am appreciating the responses so far, keep 'em coming!

I went through the same thing you're going through. I decided on the 2010 used because of the price difference. I was able to find exactly what I want and the price I was willing to pay - and less than 10K miles on it. For me the used one made sense because this isn't my every day driver. Mine is a CPO, but I also extended the warranty with a GMPP Major Guard for another 4 years and 32K miles for $800 with a $0 deductible.

It's a matter of what your budget is and how much you are willing to spend. Don't settle for something you don't really want just because you have the itch to drive a Camaro tomorrow.

Good luck!
