US Government to back warranties

So much for worrying.

Obama stated this morning that the US Government will back the warranties of GM and Chrysler.

Something positive at least...

Of course he also said effectively he will let Chrysler go under if they can't get a merge deal done with Fiat...

Yep, heard it on FOX news on my XM radio. Now if I could just get video feeds that go along with my morning XM news, my morning and evening commute would be awesome.

This news combined with the recent firing of the board and Wagoner tells me what direction things are headed.

I entered this with an Open mind. I am glad that he says that GM is in his opinion going to come out of this... But I don;t think he went far enough to explain where the Government can help out the auto industry by relaxing or postponing the implementation of the new CAFE and emmisions standards untill after the industry recovers, then give them 5 years to meet the new standards. By just doing that will save the Companies Billions of dollars in R&D costs that can be used to do R&D on New products.

Another thing Is this would cost us taxpayers NOTHING for them to save BILLIONS...

That would be a good idea. The new cafe standards were written up when the industry was selling as many SUV's as it could make. They should pull it back a few years.

Of course the whole notion is pathetic but it should give potential car buyers, even HERE, a sigh of relief. There are threads here about people not buying new cars specifically because they are/were worried about potential warranty issues.

Obama said flat out he wasn't against the idea of a STRUCTURED bankruptcy. IMO, that's where they needed to go 6 months ago. Can I be on his economic team?

I wasn't trying to take a shot at your statement but rather the whole situation...I totally agree and understand your point. It's just sad to see what's become of our once great General.

True. That plus the that the taxes on the vehicle will be reduced greatly to only a few hundred bucks. I just seen it on the news.

Without warranty, buying a new car is pointless. So this will allow people to buy new cars without fear. Nice work Obama!!!!!!!
