iPhone rang over car speakers???

I had a phone call while I was on my way back to work after lunch. I was driving with the radio on as usual, when the radio turned off and a phone ring sound came over the car speakers. I thought at first OnStar must be calling me. Than the ringing stopped and my iPhone 4 began to ring in my pocket. I answered and the call went on as usual, using the phone not the car speakers. Everything was normal after that. This was really weird. I do not have the C/C package, my car is a 2010 1SS/RS. Has anyone else experienced this?

No, iPhone was not attached to the car in any way. It was just in my pocket. I was listening to FM radio.

I thought Bluetooth came with the RS package.

For this to happen, you have to have a Bluetooth chip in your car. There is no other way for it to happen. If you have onstar you have a Bluetooth chip inside that. If you have the pdim (USB port to connect mp3 players) there is a Bluetooth chip also with that.

Unless you had them both removed, I don't see how it could happen without at least one of those present.

Sometimes my phone will ring in the car and when I answer it will switch from the car to the phone. But that's because I manually switched to the phone the last time it connected. This sounds like what happened to you.

RS has bluetooth and even when you shut the car off, I believe you still stay connected, until you hang up the call...You must've just received the call as you were getting out of your car...only logical explination

I had no idea the RS came with bluetooth. I have never used it if it is there. My phone has deffinetly never been connected to my car using bluetooth. In fact I don't think it has been connected to anything using bluetooth. I will have to experiment after work. I do have OnStar but not pdim. It was really weird.

Pretty sure RS has bluetooth.

Although if you didnt pair the device beforehand, the igremlins must be causing mischief.

RS does not include BT. If you don't have the PDIM, you don't have BT. BT is part of the onstar module, but the only way you could have that is to either have a 2ss or the C&C package, both of which include both PDIM and BT. There is now BT in the actual PDIM, only the onstar module. It is possible if you bought used that the prior owner swapped out the onstar module for BT.

How exactly did the ringing sound? Exactly like your normal ring, or different, like a buzzing? Cell phones will often interfere with Audio equipment, and right before they ring. Have you seen "From Paris with Love"? Cell phone intereference sounds just like when he holds the ring up to the stereo.

I always thought is was part of the RS package, when I bought the camaro, I only opted of the auto and the RS package.

Maybe it is bundled with the 2SS and 2LT only

I'm pretty sure it is only in the 2SS or 2LT unless you get the C&C package.

It rang like a normal phone. It did not buzz that i noticed, and it only rang once than the phone started ringing. I did buy used, maybe the previous owner did something. Even than though, would BT have to be turned on on the phone. Like I said I have never used it before.

If all you heard was the ringer and the convo wasn't heard over the speakers my guess would just be radio interference. Not to say this is the exact same in comparison but the same thing can happen if your phone rings close to external PC speakers
