For those who have custom ordered

In general, are you paying MSRP, or are they discounting?

Not actually asking about the Camaro, but the order process in general on Chevrolets. If discounting, about how much?

Thanks,

Jim

So, did they quote you invoice, or did you have to bargain them down?

I've ordered 4 vehicles. I'm a firm believer that when spending that much money that I get what I want and not settle for what is on the lot. Paid MSRP or less each time. Depends on your dealer. Any incentives being offered when you order may not be there when you take delivery or could be completely different. Just something to be aware of. My experience is based on 2 each 4 cylinder cars and 2 each V8 automobiles. I have no experience in ordering a V6 automobile and and have only owned a used I6. Any simularities between my experience and a V6 purchase are purely coincidental.

This reply is not intend to hurt anyones tender feelings. I'm not trying to be a big meanie to anyone who has settled, paid more than MSRP nor am I badmouthing any dealers for making money for charging more than MSRP.

I'm getting 250 under invoice. I was sort of new to the buying process and have a weird schedule so I ended up going online and shooting e-mails to a bunch of dealers in a general area saying I wanted to order and wanted invoice. I got a few responses from dealers gladly willing to order at invoice, but went with one that would beat invoice by 250. Hope you're able to get it at a good price...I suppose it's all how much you're willing take the time to see what different dealers will do for the sale.

Sounds like invoice is pretty common. I am actually looking for snow tires... an Equinox... for the wife, and for my use, when it snows.

for me the hole deal of waiting for the car (order being excepted, built ,shipping exc, exs,)it was very exciting waiting for a car that i picked every thing for and nowone ever owned before me was wourth ordering . when it comes to price i feal it has nothing to do with engine size.it realy comes down to .do you feel like the price you hageled is fair and are you comfy with it .then lets make a deal if not then keep hagling.trying to make a deal on a car is the same no mater what make or model it is .you can be buying a toyota or a lotus and in the end its what you feel is realy the best price.

Seems like most of the time, if there are incentives, they are renewed (sometimes improved) within a week of the close of the previous incentive deadline.

But I would expect the dealership will be very insistent that you close the deal fast, rather than watch the floorplanning rent eat into what little profit was in an invoice-sale agreement. They might just flip the car to someone else cheap, rather than wait around.

I paid like $500 over invoice, maybe a little bit more. But I did not have a buy price during the ordering process worked out. I was new to the idea of ordering a car. so after 8.5 weeks of waiting the car was delivered. I tried to get more off, but the dealerahip wouldn't budge on the price. Yea, I could of gotten a better deal through another dealership, but then I would of waited another enduring 8 plus weeks. I settled at the deal, because in my opinion time is money, and I was tired of discussing the price, I wanted to apin my tires out of the lot.

In essence, if your happy with the car, it doesn't matter what the price, whether invoice or MSRP. You can haggle and discuss it for hours, or walk off and hope they call you back in. but if you walk off, what if someone else buys the car as soon as you leave? Then your stuck like Chuck.

If you're ordering a vehicle, there's no reason to pay more than invoice. They're incurring no costs, storage or otherwise, since you're going to drive it off the lot within days of its arrival. If you shop around, you can usually find someone who will go a few hundred below invoice to make a sale.

I got my Camaro for $501 below invoice by using a service called Zag that is available through the Consumer Reports Magazine website. You customize your car and enter your info and you get a report with offers from various dealers in your area. You can then take the printout when you go shopping. You can even use it to see if dealers who are not in the program will match your lowest price. It costs a little (maybe $30) but it's well worth it.
Nancy

P.S. I took the paper in with me to custom order my car.
P.P.S. This service also provides you with info about MSRP and invoice pricing on the car as you have configured it
