Camaro SS or Corvette C6?? Read post 1st.

I am hoping you read this post before polling. I have a pre-order which hasn't been pulled for production yet, I figure if I go through with it, it should arrive mid summer sometime. That is all good, but now I am kind of torn between the Camaro and the Vette. I went up to my dealer to find out some info on my order a couple weeks ago and they had sitting there 2005 C6 coupe and 2006 C6 convertable both listed for $30k. I was like wow I didn't know they were down to prices like this but I just went about my business. Well that did me no justice. I really like the new vettes and never owned a Vette or a Camaro. So I went up 1 week later and both had sold already, but they had another C6 that just came in on trade, so I drove it and it was a blast. I was able to take her out without the dealer and was really able to test this thing out. While driving down the hwy sideways @ 60 in 2cd I was really starting to appreciate this car more. My problem is this: I really don't know which one is for me now. I can get a Vette this summer and my Mrs. could be getting a Camaro vert next year, or I could get this Camaro SS for me and get a different car (not the Vette probably) next year. The next car (Camaro/Vette) would be paid for by cash, and next years purchase will be financed. I should have probably never drove the C6, but I did and I now am having a really difficult time deciding. Looks, performance and reliability are the factors I really choose by. If the Camaro was a few years old what would I like better at that point. I feel like it is kind of a common community between the two cars, I mean would you mind if a Corvette pulled up to all the Camaros and hung out, I hope not. I am really tempted to get a Vette, but I just don't know!!! With this info let me know what ya think. Thanks!

Camaro. More practical, same motor, just heavier. Better looking, and will get you more compliments than a used Corvette will. Used Corvette prices will continue to drop, don't worry.

The older C6's lack some awesome improvements. If you want a vette - just get a brand new one for $1500 under invoice....its the best deal around!

Youre on a Camaro forum, so what did you expect lol? Either way, they are both incredible cars, and I am soon to own one of each too lol. I have always liked Vettes more than Camaros, but the other dude is right-gm will have no choice by next year.

Dude I've had the same issue. I can get a 2006 Z06 for 40k...

I'm going to stay with the Camaro... I just think it fits my personality better.

Ignore the post above. It's false and it's Camaro fanaticism is obvious.

The C6 is much better looking and performing.
ANYONE who KNOWS the market will tell you the C6 will hold it's value MUCH better.
Get the C6 now and then get a Camaro SS or G8 later.

Yeah I thought about that too. I would guess though that most people here like the Vette too. I expect some bias though.

It really depends on what you want and need. If you need something a bit more practical. I'd go with the SS now and that "practical" car next year. If not, I'd say go with the C6 now, preferably newer than older (CamaroScotty's right, they've done some good things to the newer 'vettes), and get the 'vert next year. That way, you have a nice sports car, and a "fun", leisurely stroll ride in the convertible Camaro.

I know the engine in the 2008- is the LS3, what other improvements would there be? I am not that up to speed with the Corvette!

Edit: I hate when I hit enter without checking the box.
This is a response for CamaroScotty!

They made some refinements to the steering as well, to the point it got one of the auto mags' attention, but I don't remember which. I believe there were more, but I'm sure CamaroScotty could answer better than me.

If there are any bugs in the new camaro they should be worked out by next year. I would get the vette now and wait till next year for the camaro. Who knows, they may actually improve them next year. But this is coming from a guy who is leaning toward saving his money and not buying anything at all with these uncertain times were living in.

Yeah, you gotta be careful about test driving. It can really make you sway, especially with some nice cars out there. I know this might sound crazy since they're very different cars, but I recently test drove a new Malibu LTZ, and I was extremely impressed! As in, I WOULD be buying it if I wanted a sedan right now. Same goes for the G8 GXP. Very nice car!

IMO If you need a back seat get a Camaro but if you have no use for it Corvette is the way to go, but I love the look of the Camaro
