CONVERTING L99 to LS3

Is there a complete part list listed on the forum in detail part by part toconvert a L99 to a LS3 using stock GM parts? Or can someone assist me obtaining a list? Thanks!

Why on earth would you switch from a L99 to a stock LS3? You're going to void your warranty whether you change it out with stock parts or BETTER aftermarket parts. I'd bet aftermarket parts aren't much if any more expensive.

First of all many of us did not buy these cars for the warranty. And second the conversion will give him an approximate 80 rwhp increase with a proper tune over the factory L99. More with headers and exhaust. Remember he will not use a factory LS3 cam but a better breathing aftermarket.

The gains from the conversion are primarily coming from the cam.. are they not? I am still trying to educate myself to do this as well, but I just don't know if I could justifiy the cost of a conversion at this moment..especially when most performance suppliers here have recommended taking the step to headers first and then completing a package such as Jannetty's 445 and 470. I already have the "415" stage package.. I am just waiting to see how reliable these VVTs remain...

OP, hope you find your answers through the site, it has educated me through most of my purchases... but the conversion is expensive as hell when all is said and done.

Um, did you read his post? Where did he say he was using a aftermarket ANYTHING? If you haven't noticed, he's already started a thread looking for a stock LS3 cam.

Now, if you're saying that there's 80+whp difference between a LS3 cam and a L99 cam, you're crazy. Would you go through all the trouble of paying for labor to swap out to different stock parts and use a aggressive aftermarket cam? I'm well aware of what's possible with a good aftermarket cam. My question is why would he want to use stock GM parts? That's the ONLY reason I mentioned warranty. He loses his warranty whether he uses GM parts or not so what's the point.

I believe the op is saying he is going to use the stock ls3 cam. So your looking at 20-30 rwhp.

Not exactly. There's more to it than just the cam. There's also a a CR difference that would account for few of the ponies. Even at 25hp for the cam, the A6 is gonna eat up a couple ponies to put you near 20whp. That means you're looking at over $4k for ~20whp. I was just wanting to know why the OP wanted to swap out with stock GM parts. Apparently i'm the only one that thinks that is a HUGE waste of $$.

Your not the only one. Spend your money on what ever you want, but in the long run it would be cheaper and easier to trade up to a LS3 car. Unless you are trying to keep the automatic tranny, which would be cool. I think that if an LS3 would bolt up to an automatic, that Chevy would not have went to the trouble of putting the L99 in the car in front of that tranny. It would have been cheaper for them to just offer the LS3 with an automatic instead.

By the way, nice looking Camaro!!!

Where do you get over 4K from?

The parts run about $700-1000 plus labor unless you do it yourself. Some parts would be stock GM like the trays/buckets, LS7 lifters, LS2 valley cover, LS2 timing cover etc.

I would agree though that it's a waste of money and time to do the stock LS3 cam though. If you are going to spend any money you might as well put a bigger bumpstick in there.

My 2 Cents Worth

Mod your L99 with the usual bolt ons and you'll beat 99% of the LS3s on the road (or track). Someone said it would void your warranty which is 5 years or 100k miles???? Who, wanting more performance, is going to wait that long to mod a Camaro. In that time frame you're going to get beat by 100 Mustang 5.0s and I couldn't stand to let that happen....LOL!

What i find odd is the people that are really worried about warranty but at the same time barely drive their car. Common issues may not show up until after they run out of Calander
