can it be a do-it-yourself project or will it have to be taken to a shop?

it would definately void your rust through warranty.... you will be opening it up to trap water inside the panels... It was not designed for them to be open...

vinyl or magnet!

Best approach would be to just black-out with vinyl-same type of material they use for rally stripes.....

I also thought of idea of getting same type of material used for those magnetic bumper stickers (black sheets of the stuff can be found on ebay very cheap), in black and cut to size....could be easily removed for cleaning, etc.

Wow! I was thinking of doing the same thing about applying vinyl stripes to the gills (thin generic ones are available at just about every auto parts store too), but the magnetic black strips is a great idea too!!! I was concerned about cleaning AND the ability to remove/replace them later as needed. The Mag strips solves both my problems. Thanks for the idea!

Kent, I can't resist but ask you to chop one of the ABM's! for our collection!
PS there's a new video of 2010 ABM in the color thread

Just get it painted on. And the beauty of that is that no one, unless they got really close to the car, would now the difference.

Will put that on my list, Walt I'm sure some after-market companies will come out with a black-out decal kit.
