One month check in, 1500 miles

Hi Camaro5 friends,

So today (11/7/11) is exactly one month since I picked up my new baby. She's really beautiful and I'm so glad I went for it. Special ordered her in late August (21st) and took delivery 10/7. My dealer was very helpful and the experience was a pleasure.

1500 miles so far and zero issues, interior and exterior quality seems to be great- no rattles, squeaks, anything. Everything fits together well. And I'm VERY happy with my choice of colors, especially the gray interior.

I have noticed a couple of oddities. Not problems, just oddities with how she operates.

The first one is that the owner's manual states that only the V8 models will let you shift via the paddle shifters while in automatic mode (drive). However, I have found this to be untrue, as my V6 will allow me to do this also. I've hit the paddle shifter by accident and heard it shift manually (and saw it on the DIC).......luckily I knew that holding the upshift button for three seconds places it back into drive. I am wondering why this is. Anyone else with a 2012 automatic- have you come across this?

The second thing is that, when unlocking the car manually with the key, the alarm will sometimes go off (not always). This is an incredibly minor issue because I'll almost never be unlocking the car with the key, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I do wish my gas mileage was a tiny bit higher though, but I can't complain at all since the window sticker says 22 average and that's almost exactly what I get (sometimes a bit less). But I know- who buys a Camaro for gas mileage right? I'm averaging 20.8 for the life of the vehicle so far (OnStar calculates 22mpg, I calculated 20.8 manually). DIC is usually right on when it comes to calculating mileage per tankful, as far as I've seen. I'm really not complaining at all because I drive 40 miles a day, about 28 of that is highway but there's usually stop and go traffic on those highways during my commutes. So, I'm never really cruising (I know, sad). I consistently watch my DIC during the commute and watch mileage go up on the highway and down in stop and go traffic. Highest I've seen was 23.5 and lowest was 19.5 (averages). Can't complain at all about a 21mpg average when 22 is what's advertised. Could be much worse.

Haven't really had too many strangers compliment me on the car or start conversations. But there have been a few instances. Each morning on the way to work I pass a group of young kids waiting at the bus stop with their parents. On more than one occasion one of them (must be 5 years old) will point and shout "Bumblebee!" while smiling. Brings a smile to my face. I've also had older kids (14-15?) on bikes give me thumbs up, and (here's my favorite) fellow Camaro drivers honk their horns in approval. Passed a 4th gen owner the first weekend I had the car, and he honked and nodded. I've passed multiple 5th gen owners who have been very courteous!! Just today, I had a black LS honk at me as we passed each other on a two-lane road.

I also love the OnStar mobile app, I've tried remote starting my car from it and it's cool. But usually what I use it for most is the diagnostics. Also, the ability to send a destination to OnStar Turn by Turn is really cool....maybe not a necessity, but cool nonetheless.

Bottom line, I absolutely love the car, very glad I made the decision to go with the Camaro. I've become a die-hard Chevy fan now too! It's been so great becoming part of the Camaro5 family too, looking forward to many happy years with my new baby.
