Can anyone tell if it's OK to cover a car outside in the winter to prevent snow and ocean salt spray.
A friend of mind is curious if it would cause more harm by covering it up with a water tight cover, I don't think a cover that breaths would be of much benefit as it would let the water/salt through causing more harm than leaving it without a cover and try to keep it washed as frequent as possible. any suggestions would be mush appreciated.

It's to the best of my knowledge that car covers that breath, let moisture out...but not in. My father has a pick-up truck that just has a car cover on the cab and not the bed. His truck leaks, when it rains outside, and when the cover is on it stays bone dry in the truck and the paint does also.

A good quality car cover is absolutely the way to go, I have even seen them for sale where the cover itself is Yellow with Black Stripes on it (which is pretty cool despite not adding anything to it's functionality).

The only thing to make sure of, and I am SURE you would not do this anyway, is in the event that it freezes on your car (the car cover) do NOTHING to it until the sun melts it all away so you can EASILY take the cover off. It will be just fine once totally thawed out.

Quality covers will keep the mold away. Cheap ones will bond to the paint. I don't cover mine for winter storage in the drive way. I assume dust between the cover and the paint would act like sandpaper.

Freeman, not a fan of car covers for outdoors. Moisture gets trapped on the paint and wind blowing the cover abrades the paint. Ocean salt spray is death on cars. Avoid it at all costs.
