New Toyota TV Ad says there Cars are American

Just saw a new Toyota ad and the main selling point was that Toyota was an American made product. Sort of like shucking off the fact that it is not a Japanese product but just as American as Chevy or ford. Just didnt seem right to me, like misleading the public, but I guess thats how Toyota has always been....very misleading.

Um, it (Camry for sure) has more parts built in america then our cars. Ours are not even assembled here, but in canada. With the continued slide in the value of the dollar and rise of incomes overseas it gets cheaper to produce it here than to ship it in. Even China will eventually have to reform labor as more and more people join the middle class they will want more freedoms and fair wages for everyone. To bad we went broke before it evened out.

Firstly, there is a HUGE difference between Toyota Motor Corp. USA and Toyota JP. Toyota USA does manufacture cars stateside. They've had factories on U.S. soil for quite sometime. The Tundra, for example, is manufactured in the U.S. along with many other vehicles in their lineup. They are not, however, union made. Which I suppose could be interpreted as misleading if one were so inclined. Either way, who cares? Toyota USA hasn't offered anything cool anyway...well, unless you like having sex with trees and shrubs *cough* Prius owners *cough-exhale-fart* And those aren't even built stateside...yet anyway.

Some Toyota's are assembled here but not made. My o9 tacoma was assembled in Northern California but most parts came from Mexico. Most car companies have plants in the US, cheaper for us since they aren't being imported from other countries.

I am not a fan of Toyota.... but they do make cars here in the US keeping americans employed... and of course the Camaro is built in Canada... come to think of it Toyota didn't need a bailout either... :(

Anyways I will still be buying a Camaro because it's what I like.

The tundra in particular, is more US than a ford pickup, it's the big 3 who are doing the real misleading.....

6 years ago Toyota built a factory in my small home town in missouri. Even the die hard American car guys would agree that Toyota has done very good by the American people. I think GM and Ford should take a page from their play book. In this country, in these times jobs matter more than anything.

The "American" automakers can't produce in the US for anywhere near what the foreign automakers can. I won't explicitly say why, because everyone already knows.

It is quite ironic that the most "American" cars are foreign because American companies have been chased from their own shores while foreign companies have received a warmer welcome.

And in the case of light trucks, there is a massive import tariff. That's why foreign companies always build their trucks here. It is also why so many of the "foreign" branded trucks are re-badged American trucks.

but if you buy a Tacoma or Camry, it's assemble in the USA by Americans.

So are we saying we should buy American to keep Americans employed. So if I boycott Toyota, the American Toyota plant worker is out of a job. You guys are confusing me. Are we buying American or Not?

This arguement will go on forever. The lines were blurred years ago when the Detoirt three started sourcing more and more parts globally. Likeiwse, the off-shore based manufacturers started assembling vehicles here due primarily to economic fluctuations in currency.

Bottom line, you can support US Based OEM's or Foreign Based OEM's.

The arguement about where it was made is pretty much becoming a dead issue.

If you don't understand that, sorry. You can bluster and ruffle your feathers until doomsday. It won't change the situation. The days of isolationist trade went out the window a long long time ago.

I saw once that Toyota pays $40 per hour in pay and benefits for each employee. GM and Ford pay closer to $60 per hour. Mainly from the lavish and overreaching (IMO) UAW contracts.

Making sure not to get political. I feel the American company's were running from pensions and started making parts in mexico to undercut the American manufacturer. The cost cutting allows them to try and spread to new markets around the world. They stopped thinking only about America and went over seas to become a global powerhouse. The bailouts prove it was a flawed idea and ended up screwing everyone. American car guys(and gals) are not stupid and when these cars stopped being "Made in the USA" they stopped buying them. All this while they made Trucks/SUVs big business and gas prices went through the roof. What a combo of crap to deal with, it's no wonder people protest.

On a side note: I'm going to try and install my footwell lighting today! I'm going do to do it myself so wish me luck
