Clutch noise and 3rd gear grind

2010 2SS: ok so ive been reading alot of threads on here about these problems. i have a very very loud clunking noise when going slow in 1st gear and pushing the pedal in. took it to the dealer they said operating as designed. after reading on here i guess that is just the nature of the beast. but going into third gear it seems to be grinding no matter what temp the trans is at. second gear doesnt do it much, only a few times. i dont want to take it to the dealer to have them say its fine or normal or whatever excuse they have. do you guys think if i took it in they would actually fix it? the car is bone stock with 28k miles on it. bought it used in october with 25k miles on it. clutch always made the noise 3rd gear started within the last 1000 miles. any insight is appreciated!

o yea ive also taken it in because of all the paint chips by the rear wheels and front bumper cover. the front is completly covered in chips and the sides in front of the back wheels are pretty much the same. dealer said not their problem. but i love this car otherwise

I get the same clunk noise in 1st at low revs. It feels like play in the driveline. It doesn't do it at moderate or high revs, just usually around the parking lot (and mostly when the engine is cold).

The grinding needs to be checked out thought. That is a common problem with the TR-6060 transmission and needs to be fixed. If one dealer wont, go to another one.

For good or bad the 5th gen Camaro has a 2 piece drive shaft and 4 CV joints before power ever reaches the rear wheels. That means there are many points that create "drive train slop". Couple that with any "slop or back lash " in the transmission and you will get clunking or other odd noises on a repeatable basis. When idling along in 1st gear or any gear for that matter try pushing in the clutch very, very slowly and I bet you don't hear the clunk, thud or weird noise you are hearing. When the car in in motion and in gear, all these joints in the drive train are loaded and disengaging the clutch, especially quickly allows these joints to relax quickly but not necessarily at the same time which then creates the noise you hear. Bottom line is they all do it to some extent and although it is disconcerting, it is normal. Shifting characteristics of the Tremec 6060 has been beaten to death on this forum as well as the Mustang and Challenger forums. The new carbon fiber blocker rings or they used to be called synchronizer rings seems to help BUT there are things you can do to improve the shifting of the 6060 before a tear down and installing the CF rings. The Tremec like any other manual transmission shifts better when warm, I know mine shifts the best when the trans temp gauge reaches at least 150 degrees and above, it seems the hotter it gets the better. The OEM trans fluid is a semi synthetic ATF, replacing it with a full synthetic ATF greatly improves shifting, even in cold weather where much of the shifting issues come from. I used Mobil 1 ATF in mine, takes 4 quarts. Secondly, separating the clutch and brake reservoirs by adding a separate clutch reservoir, using a DOT4 fluid in the clutch hydraulic system ( brakes benefit from the DOT 4 upgrade also ), bleeding the clutch hydraulic system properly and changing the fluid at least once a year or more often if the car sees a lot of track use helps to ensure your clutch is functioning at it's best and is not contributing to the shifting difficulties. Search on "remote clutch reservoir" and sit back and read, a lot of useful information there.

just an update. the car is at the dealer got the oil changed and they could not get it to grind. so me and my wife drove the tech and service advisor around. they both also drove the car. everything is working perfect. but they decided to keep it over night and will drive it cold, said if anything sounds like a grind they will tear into the trans and pay for a rental. if all checks out ok they are going to fill it up with gas im pleased and hoping they hear it

I traded my C6 Corvette for a 2SS and what a nightmare this Camaro has been. 1st - 3rd gear sychronizers were bad. The dealer had my car for 3 weeks and rebuilt the transmission 4 times. Finally gave the car back to me and 3rd gear still has intermittent issues, grinding! Took the POS back to the dealer and they won't fix it, claim nothing is wrong with it. Took to another dealer, the service advisor drove with me and agreed that there's an issue but the service manager claims its normal. I hate this car!!! Should have never traded in my Corvette.

camaro good but not great

took my camaro in with the same exact problems grind shifting into third and poping out of second while making a clanking clacking noise at a idle took it in to reliable chevy alb nm turns out chevy issued a recall on all manual transmission for failure on the slave cylyinder becouse of this it cuased the clutch to be worn down so new clutch and pressure plates with fixed cylider thankgod for warranties and recalls most likely will sell my camaro after this dissapointed to much money spent for my car to be in the shop all the time

When I first got my 010 SS/RS I couldn't stop driving it but after about 4 months I realized I made a mistake I wasn't happy with the transmission (6 man) no satisfaction from the dealer, grinding, clutch chatter, thumps and clunks,
mystery noises in the front end, Why couldn't they spend a little more time engineering before they put them on the market.
Problem solved got a 012 Mustang GT I can't believe two cars can be so different 3:73 manual no problems at all I have owned a Camaro from all
generations and the 010 was the worst. I never owned a Ford I know there were issues with the trans but they made changes in production to make it right.
