Having my windshield replaced and have a question.

So it turns out my OEM factory windshield is bad, it’s hard to explain but it not clear, almost like there is some sort of residue on it, but there is not. I tried all sorts of things to clean the window, nothing worked, and the strange distortion/film remained.

Today I stopped by a local glass company, they think the vinyl in the windshield did not set properly when it was made and that is the problem. Anyway they recommended I bring it to the dealer and point out their observation. 1st thought running through my head was oh no! This is not going to go well!

So I head over to the dealer and explained my situation, I was shocked and utterly surprised that both the Service adviser and the Service Manager listened to me and took the time to inspect the glass and agreed with the assessment from the glass company. In all of 10 minutes the SM approved the installation of a new windshield. I have to give it to Starling Chevy in Kissimmee, FL, they really know how to take care of their customer and I did not even purchase my Camaro there. Now I just have to wait on the windshield, once in I will drop the car off for the day, and be given a loaner. 2 thumbs up for Starling!!

Obviously the new glass will be OEM and installed by the dealer but I have read some places that breaking the factory seal on the windshield can lead to integrity problems. So here is my question, is there a problem with breaking the factory seal on the windshield? Also what should I look for when getting my car back?

Look everywhere on the outside perimeter for any scratches done by the knife used to cut the original glass out of the vehicle, also inspect real closely from the outside and the inside of the glass, inspect all your trim pieces from inside and outside of glass (A-Pillar, Roof Liner, Dashboard). Make sure no glue is present and that windshield is aligned properly. Also inspect your reveal molding on the top of the glass to make sure it is properly seated and adhered to the body and glass and not protruding above it!

You have HUD? Make sure they put in the HUD specific windshield

Oh yeah make sure the inspection port for the VIN is properly aligned and no overflow of glue is present!

The SM said they are ordering per the VIN, and it will be for the HUD.

Just had my drivers side window replaced and today I heard air coming through when i drove above 55mph, needless to say they'll be getting a call frm me tomorrow! My advice to u is inspect it thoroughly, take it through a car wash weather u need it or not to see if it leaks. Better safe than srry

I had mine replaced by Safelite using OEM glass they got from the dealership. It's been about 6 months since I've had it changed. I've went 70mph in it at least 3x/week since then and have had no problems. It's supposed to have a lifetime warranty with it.

Be sure they put the windshield wipers back on the correct sides. If they don't, the driver's side of the glass will get scratched and the underside of the hood on the passenger side will have all the paint scraped off. :( :(

I had my windshield replaced by Safelite a few months back. They replaced it with Guardian glass. I have not had any issues what so ever with this new glass.

Get factory OEM glass vs OEE glass. Orig Equip Equivalnet (OEE) is not desirable. Look for trim pieces to be straight and not bent. Good luck!

Had mine replaced. I watched the technician do it, and even had to help him put the glass in. Simple job. It would take a very lazy person not to seal the new windshield properly. Just make sure they get the correct windshield: HUD, remote start, etc.

DO NOT DO THE CARWASH TEST for a few days. Let the sealant cure, and then test it.

One other thing, I can see where a careless technician could scratch your interior: dash, a pillar and top headliner trim. Inspect that for damage before you drive away.
