Pioneer AppRadio question

I just stumbled upon this Pioneer AppRadio and was wondering if anyone has it and how it is. I'm wanting to upgrade my stereo setup and was looking for a good double din when I found this one. This is really intriging since I have an iPhone 4 and would find this radio pretty useful. You can stream pretty much whatever you want from the phone to this radio like Netflix, YouTube, your photos etc. My question is, I have a feeling that the Netflix video streaming is onyl enabled while in park but I'm sure there's a way to over ride that so has anyone do that with theirs? Also I know you can do Netflix but can you do videos just from the standard videos app on the iPhone?

You might want to visit avic411.com. They have a forum specifically related to the pioneer app radios. The newest version, due out in april works with android, and has a bigger screen. However, I believe that there are still a few quirks, and a few more unhappy owners. I'm actually looking into one once the newest version comes out.

I would myself go with the new Kenwood DDX 719 over the new APP Radio.

The APP radio we have sold alot of over the last year with not the best reviews.

This new Kenwood is going to be awesome. We already have 47 packages presold for this unit. They will be here in a few weeks

Kit includes the Scosche or Metra dash kit

Here is some more info on it

Does this Kenwood have video out so that I can stream video from my iPhone to the headunit or is the only video thru the DVD function?

Also, will I need to buy any adapters or anything in order to be able to use stock radio capabilities? And what do I need to do to go about retaining stock chimes and sounds?

Bump.. Are these app radios really worth it? Are there a fair amount of apps that work with them either Pioneer or Kenwood radios or is the majority of the apps just typical video playback apps?

Any of these units that have a navigation app for either an iPhone or an Android phone and no built-in navi system....be aware that you will be using data from your data plan to use the phone navigation in the unit. Unless you are grandfathered into your carriers unlimited plan, you will be burning your data time up very quickly....not to mention using Pandora also.

Give me a unit with built-in navigation functions and Pandora (either Bluetooth streaming audio or direct control through the unit's Pandora app) and I am good to go.

Yes jeffa is correct the app radio itself does rely on your data to run those apps but other radios that support pandora or apps will also however there are some standalone radios with navigation. Questions for the OP
1. Are you still purchasing CD's or going completely digital?
2. Do you have a set budget in mind when it comes to a radio?
3. Are you planning on sticking with the iPhone on the long run?
4. Do you use your smartphone for everything? such as music, navigation, pictures
5. Have you considered other alternatives?

2. Do you have a set budget in mind when it comes to a radio? I dont want to spend more than $800 for both the headunit AND Scosche kit.
3. Are you planning on sticking with the iPhone on the long run? iPhone for at least the next few years. I am not a fan of Android at all
4. Do you use your smartphone for everything? such as music, navigation, pictures I use it mostly for music, pictures, and the usual Facebook and websurfing and YouTube type of stuff. I am on a 2gb ATT plan since I wasn't grandfathered in. I'm bumping up to 3gb soon though since its only $5 more. My Navigation I get thru my TomTom
5. Have you considered other alternatives?
I was looking at some of the Kenwood headunits. I think I may just go with a unit that still retains the cd/dvd player. I always like having something incase I need it instead of not having it and needing it.

Hey Dennis
Thanks for the help with my Radio. You sure did turn this around quick for us.
Keep me updated on when new ones come in and are available - maybe I will switch out - but I am sure I am going to like this one so it will be tough.
Thanks again

I'm seriously considering the AppRadio2 package with the Scoshe kit...thankfully grandfathered in with unlimited data on the 4S.
